With racing in Victoria taking Monday off, the BetDeluxe team focuses its attention the eight-race card at Newcastle.
A three-year-old gelding looks ready to make himself a winner for the first time, while race five presents us with a good each-way opportunity.
Newcastle race 1
#11 perfect point
Get the feeling we will really find out what is under the bonnet of Perfect Point today after a solid enough debut.
The three-year-old gelding copped a heavy eight track at Newcastle over 900 metres and was very well backed as a $3.3 elect, but could only manage a second-place finish.
Think he will be better suited by getting onto a dry track, which will show his true capabilities as a horse.
He showed really nice speed at his trial before racing and probably still has improvement to come from a fitness perspective.
Marking him the best of the day.
Suggested Bet: Perfect Point win at $2.4
Newcastle race 2
#9 Spirit of Chanel
It was a horror show for backers of Spirit of Chanel last start.
The three-year-old filly began her career at Scone over 1000 metres just under a month ago when being sent out as a $3 favourite, but it all went wrong for her.
She squibbed the start, jumped three lengths last and then got caught in between horses for the entire straight.
By the time she saw day light and had any clear galloping room the race was over.
Going to be forgiving of her and give her another chance after she showed a level of talent at the trials that stamped her as better than provincial maiden grade.
Suggested Bet: Spirit Of Chanel each-way at $6.5 the win and $2.15 the place.
Suggested Exotic: Boxed Trifecta – 8, 9, 14
Newcastle race 5
#4 A Millions Dreams
A Million Dreams is going to be our speculative each-way play at double-figure odds today.
The six-year-old gelding has only won two career races in 28 starts, but looks well versed to run to his best here.
His two trials leading into this race have been run in a way which suggest he will be forward enough in condition to win first-up despite the 1400-metre range being his go-to distance range.
Hoping the favourite gets held up and stuck from barrier one as we make our run around the outside of the field with full momentum.
Suggested Bet: A Million Dreams each-way at $12 the win and $2.9 the place.
Suggested Exotic: Quinella 4 & 6
newcastle race 8
#11 dawnburst
Dawnburst looks the one to be with.
The three-year-old filly now has a great fitness base to run a very strong 1350-metre race.
Her three runs this campaign have been all been pointing towards a preparation of multiple wins and she gets a big chance to find another victory here.
All her racing has been done on rain-effected going, but she returns to her home track on a drying surface that will enhance her chances.
Draws an ideal barrier that can see her tag the back of the leaders and conserve her sprint for the pointy end of the race.
Suggested Bet: Dawnburst win at $3.7
Suggested Exotic: Exacta 11 & 12
