The Punter’s Prince is ready to fire on all cylinders as we head towards the Caulfield Cup card at Caulfield this weekend.
The best bets on the 10-race program have found some big each-way value in the first as well as a Godolphin runner who looks hard to hold out later in the card.
Caulfield race 1
#9 Ghost Doctor
It’s raining, it’s pouring and Ghost Doctor will not be snoring.
The John Fraser-trained seven-year-old gelding will relish the wet conditions at Caulfield.
A genuine wet-tracker who loves racing on rain-effected tracks with 10 starts on the heavy being a platform for six of his 10 career victories.
He went lickety split up front in a Bendigo BM-64 last start on a heavy 10 track and bolted in by three lengths after being smashed in betting.
No idea how he has gone up $26 and he looks the wrong price.
Should map towards the front and will plow through the conditions.
Suggested Bet: Ghost Doctor each-way at $26 the win and $5.5 the place.
Suggested Exotic: Trifecta – 5, 9/ 5, 9, 10, 13/ 2, 5, 6, 9, 10, 13
Caulfield Race 2
#4 Lady Adelaide
Lady Adelaide finally put it all together last start when bolting in her maiden victory at Sale over 1206 metres.
She really lengthened well in the concluding stages of the race despite being forced to race three wide with no cover in a small field.
She seems to have a fair bit of upside to her compared to the majority of the field who look to have already hit their peak.
Do not mind the wide barrier for her running style either.
She looks the type of horse who will appreciate racing outside of runners and being allowed to build her through gears without being stopped.
Having a good each-way whack on her just incase she misses the win.
Suggested Bet: Lady Adelaide each-way at $5.5 the win and $1.8 the place
Suggested Exotic: Quinella 1 & 4
Caulfield Race 8
#2 Varda
Think we have found our lock of the program.
Varda defied a savage market drift when resuming from a spell to put in a nice effort at Warwick Farm when finishing runner-up Lord Olympus.
She now takes the trek down to Melbourne for this stakes race and will have derived a heap of fitness from the first-up effort.
Has clearly been trained to peak second-up as she did last preparation when launching at the line to win at Doomben over 1110 metres.
Damian Lane hops aboard from barrier nine and he is going to give this mare a perfect midfield run in the three-wide running line with cover.
Super hard to beat in a field with a very long tail.
Suggested Bet: Varda each-way at $5 the win and $2 the place.
Caulfield race 9 - Caulfield Cup
#2 Incentivise
The current Group 1 star of Australian racing.
Incentivise is yet to taste in his last eight starts and taken out the Makybe Diva Stakes and Turnbull Stakes at his last two efforts.
Weight-for-age racing back to handicap level is usually a recipe success, especially with his ability to take any luck out of the equation.
He has a high cruising speed and a will to win that just breaks his rivals hearts.
Highly doubt the wide barrier will be of much concern so late in the card with the wet weather likely to render the inside of the track to quicksand.
Brett Prebble is riding in amazing form and he will pull the strings here to give this winning the machine best possible chance of winning.
Suggested Bet: Incentivise win at $2.4
Suggested Exotic: PUNTERS PICK TRIFECTA – 2/ 4/ 14
