Day 2 of The Championships hits Randwick this Saturday with four Group 1s and a big crowd expected. Caulfield hosts a competitive April meeting with prizemoney.
Royal Randwick Race 5
#4 Soverato
Soverato looked the winner at her latest outing. She was home and hosed at the top of the straight; however, she was mowed down late by a smart one. The quick backup could prove decisive, and the longer trip puts her into all winning conversations. The Vadamos filly oozes classy, and I suspect she has been trained to the minute for the Group 1 assignment. She may need some luck getting off the dulex as they cut the ribbons.
Profoundly will start your race favourite after a brilliant last-start victory. The big girl possesses a significant turn of foot, and she meets the usual suspects on Saturday. The step out in trip suits, and the market support is overwhelming. Her fate may be decided during the early stages of the event from the awkward alley.
Suggested Bet: Soverato @ $8.00

#1 River Of Stars
River Of Stars is a quality galloper. All of these preparations have caught the eye late, and I suspect he is set to explode on Saturday over the longer trip. His performances in both the Caulfield and Melbourne Cups are still fresh in the memory bank, and a repeat performance would see him return to the winners’ enclosure before his key rivals. The middle gate provides multiple options in the run, and James McDonald is riding winners for fun at present. He represents great value in each way.
Soul Of Spain is poised to strike. The Phoenix Of Spain gelding has been crying out for the 3200m all campaign, and his best form is good enough to figure in the finish. He always performs well at the track, and his versatility must be respected. The awkward barrier and his recent winning record are the biggest deterrents.
Suggested Bet: River Of Stars @ $9.00
#3 Treasurethe Moment
Treasurethe Moment returned to winning form at her latest outing. It was a great victory for her camp and loyal followers, and I suspect she could be back to her brilliant best. She finds her pet trip on Saturday, and her pilot has a winning association with the talented galloper. The market support tells a story, and she looks well placed against her own sex. Acid test!
Lady Shenandoah is nearing a peak performance for the campaign. All roads lead to this event, and her best performance here could be fences and panels too good for her rivals. The exposed form around her is elite, and the bonny mare is simply a classy animal. She gets the perfect run in-transit from the gate, and I expect her to be savaging the line late. Her recent winning record is the primary concern.
Suggested Bet: Treasurethe Moment @ $4.00

#7 Autumn Glow
Autumn Glow is one out of the box! The Autumn Sun mare has gone to a new level this campaign, and she put a world-class field to the sword at her latest outing. The fact she remains undefeated and untested at this stage of her career is amazing, and there are no signs of the picket fence next her name getting any smaller. The 2000m suits, and James McDonald is riding winners at the elite level for fun at present. Scarily good!
Aeliana has been chasing Via Sistina, Fangirl, Mr Brightside, and a host of other quality Group 1 gallopers. Autumn Glow is the latest of a long line of Champions that are stopping her from achieving more Group 1 glory. Her latest two victories have been super, and this looks like a very winnable assignment despite the presence of “Baby Winx or Little Caviar”. The current track conditions suit to a tee, and a victory here on the biggest stage would be great reward for effort. Dubai Honour and Sir Delius are a must for all broader multiples and exotics.
Suggested Bet: Autumn Glow @ $1.45
Caulfield Race 7
#1 Single Choice
Single Choice has one hoof on the till. The Anders gelding is progressive, and he deserves his shot in this line-up. The 2400m is ideal at this stage of his preparation, and the flood of early money indicates another bold and promising performance. His Group 2 form reads extremely well from this event, and he looks perfectly placed in this company. Hard to toss!
Amazake is the obvious danger to the race favourite. Both performances this campaign have been good without winning, and I suspect the Maurice gelding is ready to explode on Saturday. The big boy has been crying out for the 24000m all campaign, and the key appointment of Mark Zahra should raise eyebrows. In the mix!
Caulfield Race 9
#6 Oliveanotherday
Oliveanotherday looks the best bet on a tricky and competitive program at Caulfield. The Nicconi gelding is winning for fun at present, and he deserves his shot at a decent stakes race on Saturday. The six-furlong scamper is his main jam, and I suspect he will jump a long odds-on favourite. The inside draw is advantageous, and I suspect he will lead the field into the home straight as they run for the doctor. Clearly the one to beat!
Burma Star caught the eyes of punters fresh at Flemington. The form around Legacy Bound reads well for this event, and the Chris Waller polish must be respected. The step out in trip is advantageous, and the low draw brings the talented three-year-old into all winning conversations. He has been crunched in most all-in markets, and I expect him to make an appearance during the final furlong. Big watch!
Suggested Bet: Oliveanotherday @ $1.90
