Wyong and Sandown are the key mid-week meetings this Wednesday. With plenty of value on offer and competitive benchmark racing expected at both venues, find out below who our experts are expecting to take home the cash!
Wyong Race 5
#10 Cuban Cigar
Cuban Cigar resumes with an air of expectation. The Churchill Gelding won impressively at his only career start at Dubbo, and he deserves his chance in town on Wednesday. The 55kg is a luxury, and he looks very exciting despite his limited racing experience. The 1100m won’t pose any problems, and the key appointment of Mitchell Bell should fill his supporters with supreme confidence. He can continue on his winning way with even luck in running.
Matchsticks is racing well at present. The Gary Portelli trained three-year-old is super honest, and I suspect she is edging towards her next victory. The inside draw puts her into all winning calculations, and her opening double figure quote has been met with great support. The handicapper has missed the Maurice filly at the weights, and she looks the likely pilot on paper. If she is left to her own devices on top of the speed, the fat lady could be in full voice as heads turn for home.
Spicy Baby is ready to win. Both runs this campaign have been good without threatening, and the enigmatic three-year-old finds a winnable assignment on Wednesday. The 1100m is in her wheelhouse, and the tsunami of early money indicates another bold and forward performance. Louise Day is arguably in career best form, and I suspect a victory here could catapult her into Saturday grade. Acid test!
Suggested Bet: Cuban Cigar @ $4.00
Wyong RACE 6
#3 Spywire
Spywire was a brilliant first-up winner at Kembla Grange. The Trapeze Artist gelding boasts form around some serious gallopers, and he looks well placed here. The inside draw will allow him to take up a prominent role on Wednesday, and the flood of early money is more than significant. The 1200m suits at this stage of his campaign, and the Ciaron Maher factor must be respected. The flashy four-year-old will occupy the box-seat from barrier four, and if he is presented with his run at the right time, I expect him to prove too strong late. Hard to toss!
King Of Roseau was good without winning first-up at Flemington. The Capitalist gelding traditionally performs well second-up from a spell, and he has an honest record over the six-furlong trip. Barrier one puts him in the mix, and the onslaught of early money indicates another big performance. He needs to notch up another victory!
The Three Hundred resumes after a four month freshen up. The I Am Invincible gelding is a noted fresh performer, and he finds his pet distance on Wednesday. The middle gate provides Tim Clark a menagerie of options in the run, and the astute camp always present their gallopers in terrific order. Will figure in the finish with even luck.
Suggested Bet: Spywire @ $2.70
Sandown Race 6
#8 Darkbonee
Darkbonee is ready to win. The Palentino gelding was good without winning fresh at Warrnambool, and he finds a winnable assignment second-up from a spell. The step out in trip is advantageous, and the trail of early money tells a significant story. The key appointment of Craig Williams should raise eyebrows, and the stable are flying at present. The carpark draw is the primary concern.
Kokoro is over the odds. The consistent seven-year-old looks well placed in this company, and I suspect he has the fitness edge on the majority of his rivals after a lengthy and determined preparation. The current track conditions suit the big boy to a tee, and his record at the trip must be respected. The inside draw puts him into all winning conversations, and the 3kg apprentice claim should put his rivals on notice. He tends to find one or two better at the pointy end a contest.
Angiemarie will have plenty of supporters after scoring impressively fresh at Pakenham. The Street Boss filly looks super progressive, and the mile won’t cause any issues based on her current career performances and pedigree. Her opening quote disappeared quicker than last weeks’ pay, and the camp have a high opinion of the versatile galloper. Jumping from another carpark and the sharp class rise are among the primary concerns.
Suggested Bet: Darkbonee @ $2.50
Sandown Race 8
#16 Stealth Of Night
Stealth Of Night looks the best bet on a tricky and competitive mid-week program. The Night Of Thunder mare caught the eyes of punters fresh, and she looks ideally placed and poised to strike second-up. The step out in trip plays into her favour, and I suspect she strips fitter as a result of recent racing. The talented four-year-old grows a leg on top of the ground, and she has been hammered in most all-in markets. She will look the winner as they run for the doctor!
Porter is the class runner. The So You Think gelding is a model of consistency, and I suspect his best performance here would prove far too strong for his rivals. The 2kg apprentice claim puts him into all winning calculations, and I suspect he is rock-hard fit after producing several resilient performances for the current campaign. The perfect inside draw should give his opponents sleepless nights leading into Wednesday’s assignment, and his record at the trip is outrageous. His recent winning record and the grandstand weight are the biggest deterrents.
Zourain is ready to explode. The Zousain gelding is racing incredibly well, and I suspect he has been trained to the minute for his third-up assignment. The 2kg apprentice claim adds strength to his case, and the Robbie Griffiths camp are training winners for fun at present. His record at the journey is near perfect, and he meets the usual suspects. His racing pattern and style always requires an element of good fortune.
Suggested Bet: Stealth Of Night @ $2.30
