The racing spotlight shines brightly on the Sunshine Coast this Saturday. The running of the Caloundra Cup, the Winx Guineas, and the Glasshouse Handicap will ensure local punters are flocking to Corbould Park Racecourse! Around the grounds, Flemington host the annual Winter Championships, while in Sydney town, Rosehill Gardens is front and centre with a tricky and competitive meeting to kick off July.
Sunshine Coast Race 6
#2 Mister Bianco
Mister Bianco is winning for fun at present. The Zousain gelding recently made it three victories on the bounce, and he has been heavily supported in early betting to continue on his winning ways. The step out to mile is advantageous, and he handles all track conditions. The progressive three-year-old still has improvement to come for the campaign, and I suspect his rivals are all running for the minor end of the prize. Jumping from another state is the primary concern.
Millie De Lune is a model of consistency. The Puissance De Lune filly has the ability to produce sizzling late sectionals, and I suspect there is a huge engine under her bonnet. The drop back to the mile could prove decisive, and if she can stay in touch with the leaders during the middle stages of the event, she can loom to win late. The long home straight suits her racing pattern and style, and the inside draw is ideal. Acid test!
Suggested Bet: Mister Bianco @ $3.30
Sunshine Coast Race 7
#4 Warnie
Warnie didn’t see clear air at Ipswich. Favourite punters were left heading to the bar for a stiff drink, and I suspect he got out in the carpark later that night. He heads to the Sunshine Coast out for redemption, and the bigger and wider circuit suits him to a tee. The form around him has repeatedly stood up, and I expect him to figure in the finish with even luck in transit. The inform Ryan Maloney could ride a broomstick to victory at present, and the Ciaron Maher factor must be respected. Hard to toss!
The Inflictor was a brilliant last-start winner in a similar grade. The Under The Louvre gelding was luckless in the Group 1 Stradbroke prior, and he meets easier opposition on Saturday. The big boy has been well supported early doors, and I suspect he is edging towards a peak performance for the campaign. He can cause a major upset if the favourite experiences traffic issues or has an off day. Big threat!
Suggested Bet: Warnie @ $2.90
#5 Bear On The Loose
Bear On The Loose is knocking on the door. All performances this campaign have been first-class, and he looks well placed in this company. The Footstepsinthesand gelding finds a winnable assignment, and I suspect he will control the tempo throughout if he can find the bunny during the early stages of the race. The handicapper has missed him with a feather on his back, and the current track conditions puts him into all winning conversations. The form around him reads well for this event, and I expect him to make his presence felt late. Yes please!
Half Yours will jump a short-priced elect after producing a first-class campaign to date. The St Jean gelding hasn’t missed the quinella since the moon landing; his parents were mudders. He will drift back at the start and find his hooves, and if he can stay in touch with the peloton throughout, he can loom to win in the shadows. The primary concerns are the class rise and his racing pattern and style.
Suggested Bet: Bear On The Loose @ $4.50
Sunshine Coast Race 9
#6 Castillian
Castillian looks one of the better bets on the program. The Per Incanto gelding is building a picket fence next to his name, and he looks well placed in this company. The 1400m looks ideal at this stage of his campaign, and I suspect he has the fitness edge on the majority of his rivals. The sting out of the track plays into his favour, and he will pilot the field with positive break. If he can stack them up before they run for the doctor, the fat lady may be in full voice before they enter the final furlong.
Deep Respect is knocking on the door. All runs this campaign have been good without winning, and he finds a winnable assignment on Saturday. The Deep Field gelding is ready for the longer trip, and the key appointment of Melbourne Cup-winning jockey Robbie Dolan should give his key rivals sleepless nights leading into the competitive affair. He tends to find one or two better at the pointy end of a contest.
Suggested Bet: Castillian @ $3.10
Flemington Race 8
#10 Oh Too Good
Oh Too Good has returned to racing in great order. The All Too Hard mare demolished a smart field at her latest outing, and I am excited to see her fly over the mile on Saturday. She meets the usual suspects, and I suspect she is racing at the top of her game. The drop in weight puts one hoof on the till, and the current track conditions play into her favour. The carpark draw is the primary concern.
Jimmy The Bear returned to the winners’ circle at headquarters. He is racing consistently and gets his chance to tackle a decent field. His performance two starts prior behind the race favourite was good without threatening, and his record at the trip is outrageous. He will be a savaging the line late, and I expect his quote will continue to shorten before the barriers open. The 59kg and awkward barrier makes his assignment a tricky one.
Suggested Bet: Oh Too Good @ $2.90
Rosehill Gardens Race 8
#10 Thunderlips
Thunderlips is flying at present. The Zoustar gelding is chasing a hat-trick of victories, and with even luck in transit, I expect him to figure in the finish. The 1400m is in his wheelhouse, and he deserves his shot at this level on Saturday. The 54kg is a luxury, and he has been heavily supported since fields were finalised. A super honest customer who looks poised to continue on his winning ways.
Whinchat will have plenty of supporters after producing three competitive performances this spell. He is racing better than it suggests in the bible, and I suspect he will pilot the field with a clean break from the barriers. The seven-furlong trip looks ideal at this stage of his campaign, and he looks well placed in this company. He has the tendency of bombing the start.
Suggested Bet: Thunderlips @ $4.40
