The Group 1 Coolmore Classic is this Saturday’s feature event at Rosehill Gardens. With $1,000,000 up for grabs and a menagerie of Group and Listed races on the stunning program, a bumper local crowd is expected in the western suburbs of old Sydney town! In Melbourne, The Group 2 Peter Young Stakes will lure the punters to Caulfield. Can Pride Of Jenni make a successful return to racing, or will Zardozi continue on her upward trajectory?
Rosehill Race 6
#1 Wonder Boy
Wonder Boy heads to Sydney town after a luckless third-up performance at Flemington. The Cosmic Force gelding should have figured in the finish, and I suspect the camp will be out for redemption on Saturday. He has raced well without winning this preparation, and his form around Growing Empire reads incredibly well for this event. The progressive three-year-old looks well placed in this company, and I expect him to prove too strong late with even luck in transit.
Nostringsattached made it a hatrick of victories at Pakenham. The Extreme Choice colt looks untapped and deserves his shot at this level. The big boy is ready for the longer trip and is ideally drawn in a middle gate. His camp are training winners for fun at present, and the inform Blake Shinn is undefeated on the enigmatic three-year-old. His racing pattern and style will always require an element of good fortune.
Suggested Bet: Wonder Boy @ $7.00
Rosehill Race 7
#7 Pisanello
Pisanello was a revelation during the spring. The Ribchester gelding put three victories together in fine style, and his future looks bigger than the Grand Canyon. His recent barrier trials were ominous, and he is well placed here with a featherweight on his back. He finds his pet distance fresh, and he always performs well first-up. This is his hardest test to date!
Eagle Nest represents great each-way value. The Shalaa mare is flying at present, and her best performance here could be fences and panels better than her rivals. She is a rock-hard fit after a lengthy and fruitful campaign, and a recent jump-out will have her ready to rock ‘n’ roll for Saturday’s assignment. She is a 1100m specialist, and she looks well placed in this company. The carpark draw is the primary concern.
Suggested Bet: Pisanello @ $3.00
#4 Lady Shenandoah
Lady Shenandoah is chasing her fifth victory on the bounce! Her two wins this campaign have been ultra-impressive against her own age and sex, and her spring performances prior were simply mouthwatering. The freakish Snitzel filly takes on the older and more seasoned mares for the first time, and I suspect she is about to produce her peak performance for the campaign. The key appointment of James McDonald speaks volumes, and the enigmatic three-year-old is ready for the longer trip at this stage of her career. The current track conditions will suit, and I suspect her quote will shorten significantly before the barriers open on Saturday. The carpark draw is the primary concern.
Amelia’s Jewel returned to the winners’ circle in explosive fashion first-up in the Guy Walter. It was a rewarding victory for the camp after the star mare suffered several narrow defeats at the top level during the spring. The form around her is elite, and her best performance here could result in a dominant victory. Joshua Parr jumps on board in McDonald’s absence, and the middle gate should provide multiple options in transit for the versatile five-year-old. Her second-up record must be respected, and the step out in trip is advantageous. The grandstand weight and current track conditions are her biggest obstacles.
Suggested Bet: Lady Shenandoah @ $2.50
Caulfield Race 6
#6 Zardozi
Zardozi is ready to win. The Kingman mare has caught the eyes of punters at both outings this preparation, and she finds a very winnable third-up assignment on Saturday. The longer trip suits, and she maps perfectly into the contest with Pride Of Jenni scorching the turf on top of the speed. Watch for her late!
Future History strips fitter after a solid performance in the Blamey Stakes. The Showcasing gelding motors second-up from a spell, and his record at the trip must be respected. The rising eight-year-old can stalk the tearaway leader throughout, and if he doesn’t spend all his pennies completing the donkey work, he can cause a major upset. In the mix!
Suggested Bet: Zardozi @ $2.10
Caulfield Race 7
#3 She's Got Pizzazz
She’s Got Pizzazz savaged the line from a different suburb first-up from a spell. The Zoustar filly will appreciate the longer trip, and her second-up record must be respected. The middle gate will allow her sit closer to the speed, and if she is presented with her run at the right time, I expect her to figure in the finish. Upside and progression for days!
Winnasedge was a brilliant last-start winner at the track. The 1200m will suit, and I suspect he is about to produce his peak run for the campaign. The versatile Cliff’s Edge gelding deserves his shot at this level, and I expect him to make his presence felt late with even luck in-transit. He has a tendency of missing the start badly.
Suggested Bet: She’s Got Pizzazz @ $5.00
Caulfield Race 8
#13 Killiana
Killiana won in blistering time on debut at the nursery of champions. Her trials prior to her first-up heroics were mouthwatering, and I suspect she has a long and successful career in front of her. The extra furlong will suit, and she looks the likely leader on paper. If the talented Brazen Beau filly can cheat the clock throughout, the fat lady could be in full voice before they run for the doctor.
Ornos can run a drum at a decent price. The Toronado colt has impressed in both career starts, and he looks well placed in this company. He possesses a sizzling turn of foot, and I suspect he has a huge engine under the bonnet. 1200m is ideal at this stage of his preparation, and I suspect this event has been a long-range target. Barrier fourteen makes his assignment a tricky one!
Suggested Bet: Mcgaw @ $4.60
