The Geelong Cup meeting is the racing mid-week highlight this Wednesday. With the Geelong Classic for the three-year-olds also featuring, a bumper local crowd is predicated. Find out who our experts are tipping to take home the cash!
Geelong Race 5
#2 Truth Or Dare
Truth Or Dare is over the odds. The Vanbrugh gelding is coming off a forgive run at Flemington, and the longer trip is ideal at this stage of his preparation. His impressive maiden victory is still fresh in the memory bank, and I suspect he is ready to produce a peak performance on Wednesday. Great each-way value.
Lavalier will start favourite after a consistent campaign to date. The Microphone colt has form around some serious gallopers, and his best performance here could be fences and panels better than his rivals. The 2200m should suit the progressive type, and he has been heavily supported since acceptances. His overall winning record is the primary concern.
Hot Too Go is ready to win. All runs this preparation have been ominous, and I suspect he is ready to tackle the Victoria Derby in a couple of weeks at Flemington. This looks a winnable assignment for the Too Darn Hot colt, and I expect him to give a good sight if he can find the bunny early. The significant rise in class is the primary concern.
Suggested Bet: Truth Or Dare @ $9.00
Geelong RACE 7
#14 Birdman
Is it a plane? No, it’s Birdman! The Free Eagle gelding makes his Australian debut for the Chris Waller camp, and his international form reads incredibly well for this event. The enigmatic four-year-old is undefeated at the trip and is drawn ideally in barrier four. The 54kg is a luxury, and the avalanche of early money speaks volumes.
The Map is edging closer to a peak performance. All runs this campaign have been good without winning, and the Alpine Eagle mare is simply too consistent dismiss. The inside draw is advantageous, and the form around her has stood up time and again. The significant drop-in grade plays into her favour, and I expect her to be savaging the line late. Big watch.
Unusual Legacy is racing well at present. The Unusual Suspect gelding hasn’t missed a top three placing this campaign, and I suspect he has the fitness edge on the majority of his rivals after a lengthy preparation. The big boy deserves his shot at this level and will give a sight with even luck in transit. The awkward barrier draw is the primary concern.
Suggested Bet: Birdman @ $4.00
Geelong Race 8
#11 Moby Dick
Moby Dick was good without winning at his latest outing. His fresh victory at Flemington was first-class, and I suspect he is ready to bounce back on Wednesday. He traditionally performs well third-up from a spell and looks perfectly placed in this company. The Toronado gelding is talented and progressive, and I suspect his quote will shorten significantly before the barriers open. Hard to toss!
Yellow Sam is coming off a forgive run. The Ready For Victory mare got too far out of her ground during the race’s early stages, and it may pay dividends to forget she went around. Her second up record speaks volumes, and she meets easier opposition here. 1200m is her pet distance, and she should get the perfect cart into the race with the predicated frenetic on-speed tempo. Her racing pattern and style will always require an element of good fortune.
Barber is ready to explode. The Exceed And Excel gelding caught the eye second-up at Moonee Valley, and he was sound fresh at Rosehill. He finds an ideal assignment third-up and looks dangerous from a middle gate. The Ben Melham and James Cummings combination must be respected, and with even luck in-transit, I expect him to figure in the finish. He needs to notch up another victory!
Suggested Bet: Moby Dick @ $3.50
Geelong Race 9
#6 Modown
Modown has entered most punters’ black book this campaign. The Toronado gelding has savaged the line at both outings, and his next victory is just around the corner. The step out in trip is advantageous, and I suspect he has been trained to the minute for this third-up assignment. From barrier ten, he will drift back and watch the race unfold, and if he doesn’t get too far out of his ground during the middle stages of the race, he can loom to win. Ready to win!
Oh Too Good resumes with an air of expectation. The All Too Hard mare was rock-solid during her autumn preparation, and she has trialled exceptionally well leading into her first-up tilt. The lightly raced five-year-old commodity is progressive, and if she has improved and matured during her time away, she can win this event, easing down for the camera. Take on trust.
Electric Impulse looks suited dropping back to 1500m. The Cable Bay mare was ok without threatening at Sandown at her latest outing, and her form prior was ultra-consistent. She looks well placed in this company, and her overall record reads well in the bible. The length of her current campaign is the biggest deterrent.
Suggested Bet: Modown @ $4.00
