This Wednesday, Sandown and Warwick Farm are the feature meetings. With spring in full swing, find out who our experts expect to take home the chocolates!
Sandown Race 6
#11 Boardrider
Boardrider was ultra-impressive when winning on debut at Moe. The Preferment gelding showed an enormous turn-off foot, and he broke most on-course clocks in the process. The step out to 1400m looks ideal second up, and he looks dangerous jumping from a perfect inside barrier. Watch for him late!
Heart Of Glass has been super this campaign. The Impending mare is building an impressive career record, and I suspect she will go through her grades successfully over the coming months. The 2kg apprentice claim could prove the winning difference on Wednesday, and she has been well supported since markets opened. Her racing pattern and style will always require an element of good fortune.
Supido’s Choice has been racing well at the provincial and country levels. The Supido gelding deserves his chance here, and I suspect he will appreciate the significant drop in weight. The 1400m will suit at this stage of his preparation, and I suspect he will pilot the field with a clean break. The class rise is the primary concern.
Suggested Bet: Boardrider @ $3.10
Sandown RACE 8
#12 Sunset Dreaming
Sunset Dreaming is knocking on the door. Both runs this preparation have been full of merit, and I suspect she is ready to peak over the longer trip third-up from a spell. The drop-in class is advantageous, and I expect she will make her presence felt late with the right run in transit. Hard to toss!
Kahhof was good without winning fresh. The Pierro gelding bumped into a smart one, and the form out of the race has stood up since. The talented four-year-old strips fitter after his recent outing, and I suspect he will roll forward and pilot the field from an inside draw. He tends to find one or two better on the day.
Codigo makes his Australian debut for his new stable. I suspect the Peter Moody camp will have him ready for a first-up tilt, and the Ardrossan gelding traditionally performs well fresh. His international form reads well for this event and has been specked at a price since acceptances. I would prefer to promote him over further deeper into his campaign.
Suggested Bet: Sunset Dreaming @ $4.00
Warwick Farm Race 5
#3 Bonita Queen
Bonita Queen looks the good thing on a competitive and tricky program. The I Am Invincible mare hasn’t put a foot wrong this preparation, and the enigmatic four-year-old simply oozes class. She meets similar opposition here, and with a clean break, I expect her to pilot the field throughout. If she can control the clock early, the race may be over before the fat lady warms up her vocal chords.
Romeo’s Choice resumes after a string of impressive barrier trials. The five-year-old is a noted first-up performer, and his record at the distance must be respected. From barrier two, he can occupy the box seat throughout, and if the gaps appear as they run for the judge, he can make his presence felt late. He may need some luck getting off the dulex.
Two Ya Got is over the odds. The No Nay Never gelding is racing better than his form suggests, and he will appreciate the significant drop in grade. The 3kg apprentice claim puts him into all winning conversations, and his second-up record can’t be questioned. He is proven over the trip, and I suspect he will get a perfect cart into the race. The enforced long layoff leading into this campaign is the primary concern.
Suggested Bet: Bonita Queen @ $2.00
Warwick Farm Race 6
#4 Leica Storm
Leica Storm resumes with an air of expectation. The Snitzel gelding has impressed punters recently at the jumpouts, and I suspect he is cherry-ripe for a first-up tilt. From barrier one, he will roll forward and control the tempo, and if he can rail like a greyhound as they run for the doctor, he will look the winner inside the final furlong. His first-up record is the only deterrent.
Influential will start race favourite after producing three honest performances this campaign. The Autumn Sun gelding should be rock-hard fit at this stage of his preparation, and he looks well placed in this company. From the inside draw he will drift back and watch the race unfold, and if he doesn’t get too far out of his ground during the early stages of the race, he can threaten late. He is starting to become costly to follow.
Malabar is ready to win. The Dissident gelding has performed well in some hot-form races, and I suspect his next win is just around the corner. The mile is his pet distance, and I expect he will throw his hat into the ring to lead with a positive first furlong. The early speed battle may decide his fate early doors.
Suggested Bet: Leica Storm @ $7.00
