Gosford and Sandown Lakeside are the feature mid-week meetings this Wednesday. With the autumn carnivals in full swing and our stars standing up and making a name for themselves, find out who our experts expect to take home the cash!
Gosford Race 5
#5 Elettrica
Elettrica is flying at present. The Vespa mare was a dominant last-start winner at Rosehill, and she looks well placed in this company. The step out to a mile is advantageous, and I suspect she will get a dream run in-transit from a perfect inside draw. The 54kg is a luxury, and I suspect she has the fitness edge on the majority of her rivals. The class rise is the primary concern.
Bethencourt can resume with a victory. The Puissance De Lune gelding traditionally performs well fresh, and the 3kg apprentice claim brings him into all winning conversations. He finds his pet distance fresh, and his recent barrier trials were first-class. Too consistent to dismiss.
Pervade was good without threatening first-up. The Kingman gelding strips fitter after his recent outing, and his record at the trip must be respected. From the middle gate he can sit in the one out one back position, and if he is presented with his run at the right time, he can capitalise late. A must from broader multiples and exotics.
Suggested Bet: Elettrica @ $3.50
GOSFORD RACE 6
#1 Ravenclaw
Ravenclaw put his rivals to the sword a long way from home at Wyong. The Harry Angel gelding is rock-hard fit, and he is currently loving his racing. The step up to Benchmark 64 shouldn’t cause any issues, and there has been a flood of money for the big boy in early betting. The length of his current preparation is a slight concern.
Cross Your Heart has made a successful start to her racing career. The Deep Field filly should arguably remain undefeated, and she deserves her shot at this level on Wednesday. The apprentice claim could prove a training masterstroke, and she has been specked at a price. The awkward barrier is the biggest deterrent.
Keep Your Cool was a brilliant winner first-up at Randwick. The Deep Field filly has plenty of upside, and she oozes class. From the carpark draw she will drift back and watch the race unfold, and if she can display her customary turn of foot late, she can figure in the finish. Too talented to pot!
Suggested Bet: Ravenclaw @ $13.00
Sandown Lakeside Race 4
#3 Makrana
Makrana is racing well at present. The Pierro mare was game in defeat at her latest outing, and I suspect the significant drop-in class will play into her favour. The step out in distance is advantageous, and she should save every inch of ground from a perfect inside draw. The Kavanagh and Shinn combination will attract further market support, and she looks one of the better bets on a tricky program of racing.
Into You will have supporters after a consistent campaign to date. The No Nay Never filly has recently raced well at Group level, and her best performance on Wednesday could be fences and panels better than her rivals. Her record at the trip and the length of her current campaign are among the primary concerns.
Pink Chandon looks well placed in this company. The talented three-year-old has rubbed shoulders with some serious gallopers, and she has been screaming out for the longer trip all preparation. From the middle gate she will drop back and find her hooves, and if the peloton leave the kettle on early, she can capitalise late.
Suggested Bet: Makrana @ $3.00
Sandown Lakeside Race 6
#2 Naiconi
Naiconi is posed to strike first-up from a spell. The Nicconi mare is resuming after a long spell, and a recent barrier trial victory put the writing on the wall for a successful and fruitful campaign ahead. The enigmatic four-year-old showed plenty of promise during the early stages of her career, and if she can stay sound, the sky is the limit. The 3kg apprentice claim is adventurous, and she is drawn to perfection. Hard to toss!
Steel Jimmy is over the odds. Both runs this preparation have been good without threatening, and I suspect the Jimmy Creed gelding been trained to peak third-up from a spell. The Shay Keating four-year-old has been supported at the juicy odds, and his record at the distance must be respected. A boil over could be on the cards.
Elderberry will start favourite after a last-start romp at Pakenham. The Bolt D’oro filly possesses a huge turn of foot, and I suspect there is a huge engine under her bonnet. A recent barrier trial at Flemington looked ominous, and she deserves her shot at this level. With even luck in-transit, I expect her to figure in the finish. Acid test!
Suggested Bet: Naiconi @ $3.20
