It’s Round 10 of the AFL season, and there are old-school rivalries everywhere you look.
BetDeluxe provides tips for every game, including the Dreamtime at the ‘G between Essendon and Richmond.
game of the week: Bombers vs. Tigers
20th May 7:40PM
Dreamtime at the ‘G is both the greatest spectacle this week and arguably the best match-up, given how both teams are situated.
Richmond, who are in 13th spot on the ladder, put the rest of the competition on notice in their most recent clash against Geelong, defeating the reigning premiers by 24 points and notching their second win on the trot.
It was the Richmond of old as they attacked at all costs and hunted the opposition. Dustin Martin was the greatest beneficiary of the all-out assault with four goals and 19 disposals, while Trent Cotchin turned back the clock with three majors. It was the definition of a Richmond performance, and it will have certainly made the opposition take notice.
The Bombers were far less impressive in their clash against Brisbane, going down by 42 points in their fourth loss in succession. It’s been a tough month for Brad Scott’s men with games against Collingwood, Geelong, Port Adelaide, and the Lions, but they should regain Jordan Ridley and Jake Kelly this week.
This is a must-win for both teams, but it’s hard to go past recent form. The Tigers should be too strong.
Suggested Bet: Same Game Multi
- Leg 1: Tigers to win
- Leg 2: Over 171.5 points
- Leg 3: K. Langford 2+ goals
- Leg 4: T. Taranto 25+ disposals
- Total: $7
Power vs. Demons
19th May 7:50pm
What a way to start the weekend of footy. The Power, who have won five straight, up against the Dees, who have won four. A top four blockbuster where the availability of Charlie Dixon could decide the result. It’s just that close.
Suggested Bet: Demons to win @ $1.65
Kangaroos vs. Swans
20th May 1:45pm
While only one game separates these two sides on the ladder, it’s safe to say this match-up couldn’t come a moment too early for the embattled Swans. They’ve added Callum Mills and Logan McDonald to their extensive injury list, but it pales compared to North as they are forced to make six changes. This includes Luke Davies-Uniacke. Ouch.
Suggested Bet: Swans 40+ @ $1.95
Bulldogs vs. Crows
20th May 2:10PM
How good could the Crows be? We’ll likely find out this weekend when they travel to Mars Stadium and attempt to back up their 52-point demolition of the Saints. The Dogs themselves are on a four-game winning run, but Freo, Hawthorn, GWS and Carlton aren’t Adelaide. Not this Adelaide side.
Suggested Bet: Crows to win @ $2.30
Dockers vs. Cats
20th May 4:35PM
After a disappointing start to the year, the Dockers have managed to get their season back on track with consecutive wins over the Hawks and Swans. Better yet, their ruck combination of Dean Darcy and Luke Jackson is working. Really well. The Cats will be reeling after losing to the Tigers, but they’ll enter as favourites with the return of Brad Close, Jack Henry and Tyson Stengle.
Suggested Bet: Cats to win @ $1.57
Lions vs. Suns
20th May 7:30PM
Arguably the most anticipated Q Clash in its history, the Lions and Suns will battle for sunshine state supremacy on Saturday night. The Lions will enter as short-priced fancies on the back of their sixth consecutive win last week against the Dons, but the Suns should not be underestimated. While we don’t think they’ll beat Chris Fagan’s men, three wins and a five-point loss from their past four tell us something special might be brewing.
Suggested Bet: J. Daniher first goal scorer @ $8.70
Hawks vs. Eagles
21st May 1:10PM
It’s not precisely a flip-of-the-coin match-up, but it’s as close as you’ll get, with the 17th-ranked team taking on the 18th. Hawthorn has arguably shown slightly more over the past month from the likes of Conor Nash, Will Day and James Worpel, and that’s the only reason we’re sticking with them in this one. Too short at $1.31.
Suggested Bet: Hawks 1-39 @ $2.20
Blues vs. Magpies
21st May 3:20PM
There are certain similarities between this and the last game of Carlton’s 2022 season when they lost to the Pies by one point and missed out on finals by less than a per cent. An absolute must-win for the Blues as pressure mounts on Michael Voss and the entire playing group following four losses in their past five games. It couldn’t come at a worse time because the Pies are flying at the top of the ladder and a game clear of the chasing pack.
Suggested Bet: Magpies first to 25 points @ $1.57
Giants vs. Saints
21st May 4:40PM
The closest match-up in the markets, the Saints head into this one as $1.71 favourites with BetDeluxe. They’ve fallen into fifth spot on the ladder with three losses from five games, but none were as bad as their 52-point thrashing at the hands of the Crows. Max King will return for the Saints, but the Giants will be quietly confident with Toby Greene back into the side.
Suggested Bet: Saints (-5.5) @ $1.90
