Saturday racing is where the Punter’s Prince thrives. Like always, he has found all the best bets from Caulfield this Saturday.
A NSW-raider looks ready to lead all the way early on the program and John Sadler brings a progressive filly to tackle a Listed event.
caulfield race 2
#1 five kingdom
The speed map for this race looks to really open up for Five Kingdom.
The seven-year-old gelding from the Matthew Dale stable has run well in his last two attempts at listed level and most recently finished second in the Albury Cup.
His last three starts have seen him be unable to control the lead and that is usually his preference as a race horse.
In this small field, which, on paper seems to lack any early tempo, Josh Richards should be able to press the button early and find the front without too many hassles.
Last time he raced in this grade he held on to win by a nostril at Flemington. This time, the opposition looks a little weaker.
Suggested Bet: Five Kingdom each-way at $6.5 the win and $2.10 the place.
Suggested Exotic: Boxed Trifecta – 1, 2, 4, 6
caulfield race 4
#8 yowie
Was plunged in the market on debut and ran right up to where the market expected her to be as she cantered away for a smart win over 1000 metres at Sandown.
The time or ratings from the race were not spectacular, but she is going to take a heap of improvement from the run.
There are a few competitors around her who might become better horses in time, but in these 1100 metres races you want to have had at least one run under your belt to really build a strong fitness base.
A few of the un-raced types have looked classy at the jump outs, but her race-day form suggests she can live up to Saturday grade as a juvenile.
Jye McNeil takes the ride and should be able to angle a run from midfield with cover.
She gets the 2kg weight-pull for running against the boys and she can continue her winning form here.
Suggested Bet: Yowie win at $2.90
Suggested Exotic: Quinella 5 & 8
caulfield race 7
#2 maracana
Maracana has been bursting for a second-up run since resuming at Flemington in the Tressady Stakes, but has been unable to find a suitable race.
She finally lands in a good barrier after being scratched numerous times over the last fortnight.
Her resuming run behind Annavisto looked weak to the eye, but she was never a winning hope given how far back she settled.
Big gear change with the blinkers being applied for the first time and Jye Mcneil hops on to pilot her around Caulfield.
She will be better over further distances, but the current price is just too good to ignore.
Suggested Bet: Maracana each-way at $9 the win and $2.90 the place.
Suggested Exotic: Boxed Trifecta – 2, 3, 4
caulfield race 9
#11 paperboy
Paperboy is a tough bugger.
Was a touch unsuited racing up the straight over 1200 metres and will be much better off getting to the Caulfield 1400-metre circuit.
He raced in restricted room up the straight and flew home late in the piece to nab second. It seems the perfect platform to run well here.
Middle pin is ideal for him as he will be allowed to stride towards the lead without being cramped and he will have the rail to guide him home.
Gavin Beggood has this horse in career-best form and he looks a monty to run top three.
Suggested Bet: Paperboy each-way at $5 the win and $2.10 the place.
Suggested Exotic: Boxed First Four – 2, 7, 9, 10, 11, 18
