Bendigo Harness Tips & Previews, Saturday 8th January

Bendigo hosts a nine-race card with the running of the Group 2 Bendigo Pacing Cup as our harness racing experts go through the best bets.

Bendigo hosts Saturday night harness racing in Victoria with the running of the $70,000 Group Two Bendigo Pacing Cup and $50,000 Group 1 Maori Mile .

Our analysts find all the value and best bets you need to be on come the first race all the way through to the last.

bendigo race 2

#12 common courtesy

Common Courtesy drops significantly in grade after contesting in the Group 1 Super Series 4YO Mares last start.

She finished midfield and performed much better than what her starting price suggested despite being well off gun pacer and eventual winner Maajida.

Driver Connor Ronan needs to be at his best here to get this mare into winning position, but he knows her better than anyone and should be able to manufacture a run from the back row.

A replica of what she did last start would see her start favourite here and she can easily tag the back of Cheynella to get the perfect trailing run into the home straight.

Suggested Bet: Common Courtesy win at $4

Suggested Exotic: Boxed Trifecta – 3, 10, 12

bendigo race 5

#1 Tornado Valley

A stable marvel for the Gath family who hits this race at the ripe-old age of 10.

He is still showing plenty of zest in his racing and draws the marker pegs for this Group 1 event.

The inside gate will see Kate Gath bustle him out as he attempts to hold out NSW raider Aldebaran Revani.

Think it would be wise if Gath really put the hammer down early in this mile race given Aldebaran Revani is first-up and lacking the race fitness to run near her best.

Making him the best of the night.

Suggested Bet: Tornado Valley win at $2.45

bendigo race 7

#10 Phoenix prince

Phoenix Prince is the massive wildcard in this Bendigo Pacing Cup field.

The eight-year-old gelding resumes after nearly two years away from the races and would not have been entered in this race if he was not showing something on the course at his home stables.

He goes incredibly well when racing fresh with three wins from first-up efforts in his career.

If there is any trainer that can get a horse to run well resuming from a spell and being fit enough to win a staying race it is Emma Stewart.

Suggested Bet: Phoenix Prince each-way at $20 the win and $4.2 the place.

Suggested Exotic: Boxed Trifecta – 2, 5, 10

bendigo race 9

#6 over the odds

It was definitely a shock to not see an odds-on price about Over The Odds in this small field.

He is acquitted himself well in Australia since crossing the Tasman from New Zealand and is poised to control this race as Lance Justice deems necessary

Has the versatility to lead if they go too slow or take the sit if they go lickity split up front.

Think this pacer will start a much shorter price than we currently see.

Suggested Bet: Over The Odds win at $2.10

Suggested Exotic: Quinella 2 & 6
