Geelong Cup Tips & Previews, Wednesday 20th October

The BetDeluxe team analyses the best bets ahead of Geelong Cup Day from Geelong.

The BetDeluxe form experts go through the card ahead of the Geelong’s feature race day – Geelong Cup Day.

Our best each-way bet comes up in the ‘win and you’re in’ Geelong Cup with the winner automatically qualifying for the Melbourne Cup and the best of the day running in race five.

There is a stack of value littered throughout this competitive nine-race program, which has the crew excited for a big day of midweek racing.

Geelong Race 2

#9 Pres De Tois

Had been racing in good enough form to win a race like this prior to his last-start failure at Murtoa on a heavy track.

He is a horse that does his best racing on good surfaces and he will get that dry track in this race with clear weather predicted for Geelong.

Backs up nine days after that poor run at Murtoa which shows us he has pulled up well and the big jockey change occurs with Damian Lane going on from barrier two.

Should settle handy to the lead speed and run a good race at each-way odds.

Suggested Bet: Pres De Tois each-way at $7 the win and $2.50 the place

Suggested Exotic: Boxed Trifecta – 1, 7, 9, 12

Geelong Race 5

#6 Crestani

Crestani could not be better placed to win a race in his current preparation.

Most of his rivals are first-up off their spelling breaks and the horses who have race fitness do not have anywhere near the form he currently possesses.

He is the fittest horse in the race at the moment and can use this fitness and form to full advantage by bounding towards the front with the speed map setting up nicely for him from barrier six.

Patrick Moloney is riding in good form after showing great initiative to win a handy three-year-old race at Mornington on Monday.

This give us great confidence he will push the button early, find the front, get all the first-up horses chasing him and struggling to keep up.

Best of the day.

Suggested Bet: Crestani win at $3.4

Geelong race 7

#4 Knights Order

It was too big of an ask for Knights Order to cope with such a brutal early speed only second-up over 2500 metres in the Bart Cummings last start.

He was well beaten by Tralee Rose and the winner Grand Promenade, but happy to put a line through that run and be willing to back him in what looks to be a much softer race.

The lead looks his for the taking and his fitness will have improved a heap since that run at Flemington.

An important ear change with the blinkers going on should see him spike in his performance and he can run a big race at the each-way price.

Suggested Bet: Knights Order each-way at $8.5 the win and $2.7 the place

Suggested Exotic: Quinella 4 & 8

Geelong Race 8

#3 How Womantic

She may not have won for over a year, but How Womantic gets her chance to find winning form again in the 1200-metre Listed Black Pearl.

The four-year-old mare has found herself in much tougher races than she faces here.

Ciaron Maher & Dave Eustace have opted to keep her at the sprinting trip this preparation and she did a good job at Sandown a month ago when settling too far back over 1000 metres.

This race looks to shape up nicely for her with a handful of runners pressing towards the lead and stringing the field out to allow her to find a midfield spot with cover.

She has the best turn-of-foot of anything in this race and that is what will serve her well here.

Jye Mcneil is riding in sensational form and will give her every chance to win.

Suggested Bet: How Womantic win at $2.9

Suggested Exotic: Boxed Trifecta – 1, 3, 8 ,10
