Is it coming home?
Or…
Is it coming to Rome?
The Euro 2020 Final between Italy and England brings to an end one of the most brilliant international tournaments we have seen in many a year.
Italy vs. England
July 12th 5:00am
Set your alarm clocks.
Italy and England meet in the Euro 2020 Final at Wembley Stadium come Monday morning.
It is the final every football fan around the globe deserves with the two best teams of the tournament outdoing all before them to give themselves a chance to create a legacy.
The Three Lions conceded their first goal of the tournament – albeit an own goal – in their 2-1 extra time win over an inspirational Denmark.
Harry Kane almost made a meal of a controversially awarded penalty in the first-half of extra time but followed up his saved effort to bury the rebound and send England into its first major final since its World Cup triumph in 1966.
But the Italians have been on a whirlwind run of their own.
33 games unbeaten under Roberto Mancini after a disastrous 2018 saw them miss the World Cup for the first time in 60 years.
Fast forward to 2021 and, now, a chance to win its second ever European trophy.
Gli Azzurri had gone away from their defensive mantra so accustom to their football for decades before now but had to call upon all its defensive qualities after being outdone in general play for the majority of its semi-final against Spain.
A moment of brilliance from Federico Chiesa after a blistering counter-attack put Italy 1-0 ahead against the run of play, but an Alvaro Morata equalizer had Mancini searching for answers.
After Gianluigi Donnarumma came up trumps in the eventual penalty shootout, Chelsea midfielder Jorginho calmly slotted the match-winning spot kick with a customary hop and skip.
England will get the home crowd advantage but its record against Italy in recent times has been poor.
Gareth Southgate will have the duty of guiding England to only its second victory in seven games against Italy if it is successful but that is easier said than done.
It is the pace of Raheem Sterling and Bukayo Saka that will cause headaches for the Italian back four.
However, the Italian midfield should be able to control the tempo with Jorginho, Nicolo Barella and PSG star Marco Verrati leading the way.
When looking at the markets we see great value in the ‘official’ home team.
It’s coming… to Rome.
