An enormous night of harness racing is bestowed upon us as we preview the four Group 1’s from Melton

An enormous night of harness racing is bestowed upon us as we preview the four of the best from Melton.

Best bets are below!

melton race 2

#7 lady in the sky

The first of the Group 1s at Melton and what a cracker it is.

Lady In The Sky started favourite in the lead up to this race after being first-up from a 68-day break.

She was beaten by 5.2 metres by Queen Elida who does come up the favourite in this race but the $7 on offer for our selection seems over the odds.

There looks to be a bit of pressure in the race and if Lady In the Sky can just be within touching distance of the leaders from gate seven she is the one who can finish over the top here.

Looks a nice bet to start the program.

Suggested Bet: Lady In The Sky each-way $7 the win and $2.1 the place

Melton race 4

#5 have no fear

The two favourites in this race Kyvalley Hotspur and Watts Up Majestic have had a magnificent rivalry of late and look set to go up a notch here, but Have No Fear is the big improver.

Watts Up Majestic is drawn to kick up on the marker pegs from gate one and Kyvalley Hotspur will eyeball him, the pair could cut each other up in the front which leaves Have No Fear with the beautiful trail in behind them.

Gun driver Zac Phillips has opted to stay in the sulky for this race which is always a positive sign.

Great each-way bet here.

Suggested Bet: Have No Fear each-way at $8 the win and $2.5 the place

MELTON RACE 5

#2 SLEEPEE

The Alford family has a tight grip on this race with Sleepee drawing the ideal gate to kick up, hold the lead and boot clear in the straight.

This five-year-old mare was asked to step back in distance last start and did so with great success.

Her win over the 1650m circuit at Bendigo has set her up perfectly for this race and if she finds the lead easily here, which we expect her to do, the rest of the field may as well just pack up and come back next week.

Suggested Bet: Sleepee win at $2.6

MELTON RACE 7

#5 PINK GALAHS

We were with this four-year-old mare from Craven stable last week but everything that could go wrong did go wrong.

She broke stride when running around in the Terang Cup from a standing start and was just never able to recover and get in the race.

She was heavily fancied to win that race.

From the mobile start she should be able to settle into a much better rhythm and be able to get a tuck in behind the lead speed from gate five.

She has speed drawn either side of her who can give her a lovely cart up into the one-one or one back the pegs and with the sprint lane she can use her finishing burst to win this.

Suggested Bet: Pink Galahs each-way at $6 the win and $1.95 the place
