Giant killer Stefanos Tsitsipas faces Daniil Medvedev in the Australian Open men’s semifinal today with Novak Djokovic awaiting the winner in the final.

Tsitsipas played like a spartan warrior on Wednesday night against Rafael Nadal.

Down two sets to love and looking completely despondent, the 22-year-old who hails from Athens dug deep to produce a miraculous and tenacious come from behind 3-6, 2-6, 7-6, 6-4, 7-5 win against the world number two.

The story for Medvedev was the polar opposite of Tsitsipas in the quarterfinals, with the 25-year-old Russian accounting for fellow countryman Andrey Rublev in a 7-5, 6-3, 6-2 straight sets win.

There will be no love lost between Medvedev and Tsitsipas with the pair sharing a heated rivalry dating back to their first ever match.

It was the ATP Miami Masters where Medvedev defeated Tsitsipas in three sets and the pair exchanged words after the match.

Medvedev went on a five game winning streak which Tsitsipas ultimately put to an end in their most recent match which resulted in the world number six winning 7-5, 6-4 at the Nitto ATP Finals.

World number four, Medevedev, looks like the one in this contest to be able to win easy points on serve.

The hard hitting Russian has struck more aces so far this tournament with 57, equal eighth among men’s singles contenders, compared to Tsitsipas’ 43.

He has also saved 15 of 22 break points compared to Tsitsipas’ 4 of 8, and dropped two sets to reach the final four, half that of his rival which shows his ability to handle big pressure moments and his efficient and clinical nature when playing.

With a 19-match winning streak and boasting the third highest amount of wins on the hard court surface in 2020, it’s a sign of Medvedev deserving his reputation as the favourite in this match.

And with fitness and freshness being vital at this stage of the tournament, the advantage here lies with Medvedev.

Tsitsipas extra time on court might prove his undoing.

Having spent 11 hours and 43 minutes, approximately 90 minutes longer than Medvedev’s 10 hours and 11 minutes, it may mean his body is under fatigue and duress at this stage of the tournament.

Regardless, we are set for some world class tennis from both players tonight which will have  us on the edge of seats.

Medvedev has looked in fantastic touch heading into this and as such we have to side with him here.

Suggested Bet: Daniil Medvedev win at $1.40
