Australian golfer Jason Day returns to the course in his bid to win the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am.
The BetDeluxe team have nailed down the selections to three main players who look the best value to win.
We’ve even found a champion who, albeit not in the best of form, has come up huge odds to win this!
dustin johnson
usa
Dustin Johnson heads the PGA Tour rankings by an absolute space at the moment and as such he comes up the $6.50 favourite following a 17-under two shot victory at the Saudi International.
He is no stranger to this event either having won it by five strokes back in 2017. That winning margin is the biggest in the event since Doug Towell’s seven-stroke victory all the way back in 1986.
Armed with a vicious drive off the tee, the 36-year-old has had an incredible run since August 1st 2020.
He has finished in the top five 70 percent of the time at each event he has participated in and has averaged an incredible 3.62 strokes gained per round
There really is no knock on him.
The only little query is whether or not he will have one eye set on his Masters title defence in April and he uses this as a tune up for that event.
We might look back on this and say $6.5 should have been half the quote.
adam scott
australia
The defending Genesis Invitational champion will attempt to become the first man since Phil Mickleson to win this tournament in back to back years.
That feat was achieved by Mickleson when winning in 2008 and 2009 and Scott looks poised to strike here after a competitive T-10 seven under par at Farmers Insurance Open late last month.
Scott was right in the hunt heading into the final round at Torrey Pines but wilted away to hit one over par and finish seven strokes behind eventual winner Patrick Reed.
The 40-year-old Australian has made a knack of playing well in this tournament having already won it in 2005 prior to last year’s success.
Scott, who is ranked 23rd on the PGA Tour, has been building nicely towards the $9,300,000 event at Riviera with a T-41 at the Sony Open which was preceded by a T-21 at the Tournament of Champions.
He looks fantastic value at $26 to win and $7 to finish in the top five.
Joaquin Niemann
chile
What a rise through the ranks this young man has had in recent times.
Joaquin Niemann, the 22-year-old who hails from Chile, has catapulted through the PGA Tour and sits 28th in the world rankings.
His lead-up form has been impeccable for a player with his inexperience.
A playoff defeat in the Tournament of Champions was followed up by a T-2 20 under par finish at the Sony Open in Hawaii capping off an impressive finish to his January schedule.
Niemann finds himself second in the birdige average charts with 5.09 per round and has ranked ninth in the tee-to-green standings.
He is a big price to win the tournament at $32 and he is worth a throw at the stumps.
rory mcILROY
NORTHERN IRELAND
The big hitting Northern Irishman was back to somewhere near his best at the Phoenix Open in Arizona a fortnight ago.
The 7th ranked golfer in the world blew the start in Arizona and effectively cost himself a win on hole one but he still managed a T-13 13 under par finish after blistering seven under par final round.
That barnstorming finish will see him enter the Genesis Invitational with plenty of momentum.
McIlory’s winless run dates back to 2019 when he was victorious in the WGC-HSBC Champions tournament in Shanghai, China.
If the 31-year-old were to win this event he would become the first golfer from the United Kingdom to do so since Nick Faldo’s three-stroke win in 1997.
McIlory is more than capable of getting back into the winners list and returns to a course where he has placed at on his last two visits.
He started favourite at this very tournament last year and this course, with its old-fashioned layout, should suit his world class driving game.
It’s more than tempting to back him at $11 to win.
