BBL Final Tips and Preview, Saturday 6th February

Our experts break down the KFC BBL Final from the SCG

The best two teams all year will play in the BBL 10 Grand Final.

1st v 2nd on the BBL 10 table after the end of the regular season.

Sydney Sixers come up against the Perth Scorchers in what is set to be one the most hotly contested BBL Grand Final contests since the tournament’s inception.

A pair of brilliant batting and bowling line ups will grace the SCG tonight.

HEAD TO HEAD

perth scorchers

Sydney was the first team to qualify for the Grand Final after its somewhat controversial win against the Perth Scorchers in ‘The Qualifier’.

The Sixers accounted for the Scorchers by nine wickets after chasing down the 167-run total required for victory but it was the final ball of the match delivered by Scorchers pace bowler Andrew Tye that added some heat to this grand final.

With the result all but beyond doubt, Sixers batsman James Vince was left stranded on 98 not out after Andrew Tye bowled an unplayed bouncer that was deemed a wide.

The delivery handed the Sixers the win but left Vince and his Sixers teammates in disbelief.

Perth will obviously hit this game with momentum having easily accounted for the Brisbane Heat by 39 runs.

It was a brilliant all round display by the Scorchers in ‘The Challenger.’

The top order was on fire with Cameron Bancroft (58*), Liam Livingstone (77) and Mitchell Marsh (49*) leading the Scorchers to 1/189 off 18 overs after a rain-delay.

The bowlers then zoned in on the Heat batting order with precision.

Incredibly, Jhye Ricahrdson was actually the worst of the Perth bowlers going for 34 runs off only three overs and failing to take a wicket.

The Sixers obviously have the mental edge having thrashed the Scorchers last time they played each other but did start the $2 outsiders in that game.

Having played recently and with Richardson eager to bounce back with a better display the Scorchers can clinch its fourth BBL title and gain revenge on the Sixers.

Suggested Bet: Perth Scorchers head to head at $1.86.

TOP BATSMAN

colin munro & josh phillipe

It’s obviously hard to ignore how well James Vince went with the willow in ‘The Qualifier’ against Perth.

The highly touted English recruit bashed 14 fours and a six on his way to 98 not out.

Vince has been in consistent form with the bat in BBL10 with an average of 34 and is third-placed for runs scored behind teammate and Sixers opening batsman Josh Phillipe.

Phillipe himself has also been in mesmerising form at the top of the order averaging 33.26 with the bat across his 15 matches in the BBL this year.

He’s smashed 499 runs and has been a pivotal reason for this Sixers side going as far as it has to date.

Meanwhile, for the Scorchers, it would be buoyed by the form shown by its top order against the Brisbane Heat.

Cameron Bancroft was a fantastic replacement for injured gun import opener Jason Roy.

Roy was sidelined from the win against the Heat after sustaining an ankle injury in training and, even if he was passed fit, it would still be a big risk to confidently declare him a top run scorer for Perth let alone the match itself.

Liam Livingstone and Mitchell Marsh come into this game in great form and Josh Inglis has also been very reliable with an average of 35.54 throughout the season.

If the Scorchers top order fails to make runs, Colin Munro will be there to lend a helping hand.

Munro is the leading run scorer for the Scorchers this year with 441 runs at an average of 33.92.

Suggested Bets:

  • Colin Munro top Perth Scorchers batsman at $4.15
  • Josh Phillipe top Sydney Sixers batsman at $3.60

TOP BOWLER

JHYE RICHARDSON & steve O'KEEFE

To make it all the way to the BBL Grand Final you must have a strong bowling attack and that’s exactly what both these have in their armoury.

The Perth Scorchers possess the number one strike bowler in the competition in the form of Jhye Richardson.

Although he was off the boil in the victory against the Heat his season has been outstanding.

27 wickets at an economy rate of just over seven runs per over bowled, he’s been the go to man for the Scorchers with the ball and he will be just that in the Grand Final.

Andrew Tye has also played his hand in supporting Richardson by taking 19 wickets himself.

There will be plenty of attention on him in this game given it was him who bowled that now infamous wide to stop James Vince from reaching his ton in The Qualifier.

The Sydney Sixers will be relying on its main fast bowler Ben Dwarshuis to do the damage with the ball.

Dwarshius has had a successful BBL 10 thus far taking 21 tickets with an economy rate of 8.81.

He is currently ranked fourth for wickets this season and his bowling will be fundamental towards a Sixers triumph.

Seam bowler Colin Braithwaite and nifty off-spinner Stephen O’Keefe have also been handy for the Sixers this season.

Braithwaite has nabbed 16 wickets himself going at 7.84 runs an over while the crafty O’Keefe has grabbed 15 wickets but his sticking point this season has been his economy rate.

O’Keefe has only given away 6.97 runs an over which is crucial to him being an elite spinner in this format of the game.

Suggested Bets:

  • Jhye Richardson top bowler for Perth Scorchers at $3.5
  • Steve O’Keefe top bowler for Sydney Sixers at $4.5
