A League Matchweek 18 Tips and Previews, Monday April 26th

It's the second half of best bets and previews for Matchweek 18 of the A-League season.

Matchweek 18 rolls along as we preview the best bets for tonight’s game between Western United and Newcastle Jets.

It’s then off to Sydney for ‘The Big Blue’ followed by Central Coast aiming to wrestle back top spot on the table.

Western United vs. Newcastle Jets

April 26th 7:05pm

Western United will attempt to surge up the A-League table when it faces the Newcastle Jets at AAMI Park tonight.

After defeating league leaders Central Coast 1-0 in Tasmania last week, the green and black army salvaged a lucky draw against Wellington.

Reduced to 10-men after Brendan Hamill was sent off on the stroke of half-time, United would hold on for a 1-1 draw thanks to a 27th minute Lachlan Wales strike cancelling out an early Phoenix goal.

Meanwhile, Newcastle, who now languish at the bottom of the A-League table, has showed improved signs in the last week after a 2-2 draw against Macarthur FC.

Travelling down to Melbourne against a very talented United squad is a tough ask for a team who struggled to win a game all season.

The likes of Alessandro Diamanti, Besart Berisha and Wales are almost certain to cause a heap of trouble.

Prediction: Western United 2 Newcastle 1

Suggested Bet: Western United head to head at $2.20
Suggested Same Game Multi:
Leg 1: Western United head to head
Leg 2: B. Berisha to score anytime
Leg 3: Both teams to score
Combined odds = $4.75

Sydney FC vs. Melbourne Victory

April 27th 7:35pm

‘The Big Blue’ might see Melbourne Victory and Sydney FC at the height of their powers heading into this rivalry on Tuesday night but it will make for brilliant viewing nonetheless.

Victory responded with a resounding 5-4 win over Western Sydney after sacking coach Grant Brebner following the 7-0 Melbourne derby debacle.

It looked as though a pressure valve had been released and the men in navy blue played with freedom and vigour in a goal-fest which hauled them off the bottom of the table.

Sydney FC has gone through its last five fixtures undefeated but has only managed draws in its three most recent games.

The Sky Blues nabbed a 2-2 result against Central Coast thanks to a Trent Buhagiar equalizer in the 83rd minute on Saturday.

The 2020 premier have started to show glimpses of its brilliant form from last season.

Expecting the home team to send Victory crashing back to earth.

Prediction: Sydney FC 3 Melbourne Victory 1

Suggested Bet: Sydney FC head to head $1.36

Central Coast Mariners vs. Brisbane Roar

April 28th 7:05pm

Central Coast seek victory when it does battle against the Brisbane Roar at Central Coast Stadium on Wednesday night.

The Mariners produced an early season charge to the top of the A-League table but have since hit a few roadblocks and have dropped to second after three winless games in a row.

Brisbane, however, continued to string together its unbeaten with two wins on the bounce with the most recent of those being a 2-1 win over Western Sydney.

The attacking threat of Riku Danzaki was on show again with the Japanese 20-year-old scoring what proved to the be that match winner right on the half-time whistle.

Mariners coach Alen Stajic has to be wary of the threat Danzaki poses but at the same time put it upon his players to take it up to a Roar team who have to visit the Mariners on their home deck.

This is going to be a cracking contest and it’s tough to split the teams.

Prediction: Central Coast Mariners 1 Brisbane Roar 1

Suggested Bet: Draw at $3.4
