Rosehill Gardens and Caulfield are the places to be this Wednesday, with competitive fields and strong prize money on offer.
Rosehill Gardens Race 6
#6 Puntin
Puntin was an impressive last start winner at Dubbo. The Super Seth gelding comes to town up and about, and he looks well placed in this company. The drop in trip suits, and I suspect he has the fitness edge on the majority of his rivals after a lengthy and fruitful campaign. He will look the winner as heads turn for home.
Nobler can resume a winner. The former import impressed during his preparation for his Australian debut, and I suspect he can reach greater heights this campaign. His trials leading into this event have been first-class, and the Chris Waller and James McDonald factor should never be underestimated. I would prefer to support his case over further.
Tom Vegas is knocking on the door. The Peltzer gelding deserves his shot at this level, and the perfect inside draw brings him into all winning conversations. His versatility alone puts him in the mix, and his opening quote has been more than nibbled at. His recent winning record is the primary concern.
Suggested Bet: Puntin @ $3.50
Rosehill Gardens RACE 7
#6 Metallic Cat
Metallic Cat will strip fitter after producing a brave first-up effort after a long lay-off. The Pierata mare oozes class, and she is building an impressive career record. The lightly-raced five-year-old looks well placed in this company, and a win here wouldn’t surprise. She is undefeated second-up, and I suspect 1200m is her pet distance. Hard to toss!
Nitro looks hard to toss. The four-year-old Deep Field gelding traditionally motors fresh, and his record at the trip must be respected. The current track conditions play into his favour, and his opening quote has been well supported. His awkward gait may determine his fate in the early stages of the event.
Jasmin Rouge is racing better than it suggests in the bible. The Dundeel Mare has fantastic exposed form, and her new camp are flying at present. The inside draw will allow her to occupy the box-seat throughout, and she finds a more suitable journey. She may need one more run under her belt before producing a peak performance.
Suggested Bet: Metallic Cat @ $2.30
Caulfield Race 6
#6 Politely Dun
Politely Dun caught the eyes of puntes at his latest outing at Mornington. The Dundeel gelding finds his pet distance here, and he meets easier opposition. He should be rock-hard fit after a lengthy campaign, and the big boy handles all track conditions. His racing pattern and style always requires an element of good fortune.
Johnich is racing well at present. His win at Geelong carrying the grandstand didn’t go unnoticed, and his second-up effort at Mornington in a hot form race reads well for this event. The inform Harry Coffey retains the ride, and the stable have a healthy winning strike rate in town. He may need some luck finding a spot in the running-line from the carpark draw.
Yauson will start your race favourite after producing a near-perfect campaign to date. The So You Think gelding is chasing a hat-trick of victories on Wednesday, and the talented four-year-old looks well placed to continue on his winning ways. Hardest test to date; however, he looks progressive, with upside for days.
Suggested Bet: Politely Dun @ $7.00
Caulfield Race 7
#6 Darkbonee
Darkbonee is ready to win. All runs this campaign have been rock-solid, and he deserves his crack at Black-Type on Wednesday. The plumb draw puts one hoof on the till, and his opening quote has disappeared quicker than Raygun’s fifteen minutes of shame. The journey suits, and his pilot is arguably in career-best form. Hard to toss!
Pounding is a model of consistency. The veteran galloper never runs poorly, and the form around him has stood up time and again. He finds a more suitable assignment on Wednesday, and the Peter Moody yard is training winners for fun at present. The carpark draw and his recent winning record are among the primary concerns.
Ziryab is racing well. The Kingman gelding was an impressive last start winner at Mornington, and he looks ideally placed here by the powerful Maher empire. The trip suits him to a tee, and he maps out the perfect run in transit despite the tricky gate. No harder here, however; he tends to find one or two better at the pointy end of a contest. Take on trust!
Suggested Bet: Darkbonee @ $2.70
