Caulfield is the place to be this Saturday for the Group 3 Sir John Monash. In old Sydney town, Royal Randwick host a typically tough and competitive winter program.

Caulfield Race 6

#1 Decalogue

Decalogue looks the best bet on a tough and tricky winter program. The enigmatic three-year-old is building an impressive career record, and he meets the usual foes on Saturday. The Ciaron Maher factor is always significant, and I suspect this has been the long-range target from the astute yard. The 3kg apprentice claim could prove the winning difference, and the middle draw provides multiple options in the run. Give him strength!

Our Chief is edging towards another win. The Tagaloa gelding is always competitive, and he deserves his shot at his level on Saturday. The key appointment of Jamie Mott should give opposition sleepless nights leading into the event, and he has been well supported in most all-in markets. His recent winning record is the primary concern.

Suggested Bet: Decalogue @ $2.35

Caulfield Race 7

#6 Watchme Win

Watchme Win is knocking on the door. The Harry Angel gelding is creeping towards his next victory, and I suspect he is trained to the minute for the Group 3 event on Saturday. He should be rock-hard fit after a lengthy campaign, and he finds a more favourable trip on Saturday. The flood of money indicates another bold and forward performance, and he is ideally drawn in a middle gate. The one to beat!

Bustling looks the pilot on paper. The Frosted gelding is was ok without threatening at his latest outing, and I suspect he is ready to explode here. His double-figure quote has been met with great support since acceptances, and stable are training winners for fun at present. He will look the winner as heads turn for home!

Suggested Bet: Watchme Win @ $6.00

#4 Magnaspin

Magnaspin can cause a boil over at a price. He loves Caulfield, and he is racing better than it reads in the bible. He strips fitter as a result of recent racing, and his second-up record is rock-solid. The seven-furlong trip suits, and he meets similar opposition. If he turns up and produces his best on race day, the rest could be racing for the minor end of the prize. Over the odds!

Ten Commandments is airbourne at present. The Palentino gelding is racking up the victories for fun, and the talented six-year-old simply oozes class. The inside draw puts one hoof on the till, and the 3kg apprentice could prove a training masterstroke. The class rise and track conditions are among the primary concerns. Major player!

Suggested Bet: Magnapsin  @ $26.00

Caulfield Race 9

#9 First Chorus

First Chorus is a model of consistency. The Ghibellines mare has been up longer than a Big Bash season, and she keeps turning up and producing on race day. The current track conditions suit to a tee, and the inside draw puts her into all winning conversations. The longer trip is advantageous, and the flood of early money tells a story. She may need some luck getting off the dulex as they cut the ribbons.

Makdane is too consistent to dismiss. The Impending gelding was a brilliant winner first-up, and he has been thereabouts in hot form races since. He races well at the track and distance, and he grows an extra leg in the soft conditions. The Craig Williams factor must be respected, and his opening quote has been more than nibbled at. The carpark draw is the primary concern.

Suggested Bet: First Chorus @ $3.60

Royal Randwick Race 7

#4 Tazima

Tazima is chasing a hatrick of victories. The Awtaad gelding is going through his grades successfully at present, and there doesn’t seem to be a celling for the talented five-year-old. The 2kg apprentice claim helps his cause, and he finds another winnable assignment. The current track condition play into his favour, and the Chris Waller factor can’t be ignored. Yes please!

Elliptical can run a race at cricket-score odds. The Dundeel gelding has the ability, however; he tends to promise the world and delivers an atlas. He traditionally performs well at this stage of his campaign, and if the heavens continue to open up, I expect his quote to shorten significantly. He tends to find one or two better at the pointy end of a contest.

Suggested Bet: Tazmina @ $3.60

Royal Randwick Race 8

#3 Cold Brew

Cold Brew was an impressive last-start winner at Rosehill. The Pierro gelding put his rivals to the sword a long way from home, and this looks a suitable assignment to continue his winning sequence. The longer trip is ideal at this stage of his campaign, and his record with some give in the ground is near perfect. He has been well supported in most all-in markets, and his pilot is in career-best form. Hard to toss!

The Creator is over the odds. The Wrote gelding has rubbed shoulders with some serious gallopers, and his best performance here could prove fences and panels too strong for his rivals. The step out in trip suits, and the perfect inside draw brings him into all winning calculations. The 2kg apprentice claim is more than handy, and I expect his opening quote to continue to shorten. Danger!

Suggested Bet: Cold Brew @ $5.00
