Kensington and Geelong are front and centre this Wednesday. With plenty of value on offer and competitive benchmark racing expected at both venues, find out below who our experts are expecting to take home the mid-week cash!
Kensington Race 5
#2 O'invincible
O’invincible is over the odds. The Snitzel mare was good without winning fresh, and she finds a very winnable second-up assignment. The current track conditions suit to a tee, and the 3kg apprentice claim could prove decisive. The inside draw is advantageous, and I suspect she strips fitter as a result of recent racing. Each-way all day!
Calga Power will have plenty of supporters after producing a consistent campaign to date. The Better Than Ready gelding is always thereabouts, and he finds his pet distance on Wednesday. The big boy looks the likely leader on paper, and I suspect he holds the fitness edge on the majority of his rivals. With even luck in transit, he will be there when the whips are cracking.
Apollo Ridge can run a drum at a double-figure quote. The Lonhro gelding doesn’t know how to run a bad race, and the inform Rachel King takes the reins. Barrier one puts him into the mix, and his opening price has been nibbled at since acceptances. The class rise is the primary concern.
Suggested Bet: O’invincible @ $12.00
Kensington RACE 6
#9 My Phar Lady
My Phar Lady was a brilliant last-start winner at Newcastle. The American Pharaoh mare has upside for days, and she deserves her shot at this level. The inside draw should ensure a soft trip in transit, and her camp is training winners for fun at present. The 55kg is a luxury, and she possesses a significant turn of foot. Her racing pattern and style will always require an element of good fortune.
Starphistocated resumes with an air of confidence surrounding her. The 1400m is the perfect starting point for the enigmatic four-year-old mare, and the form from her previous campaign must be respected. She grows an extra leg in the wet, and the middle gate will allow her to roll forward and pilot the field with a clean break from the barriers. She will look the winner as they cut the ribbons.
Impunity can perform well at the cricket score odds. The Dundeel gelding is racing better than it reads in the Bible, and I suspect she will appreciate the significant drop in class. The rising six-year-old will drift back and find her hooves during the early stages of the race, and if the peloton spend their pennies early, she can capitalise late. Over the odds!
Suggested Bet: My Phar Lady @ $5.00
Geelong Race 6
#2 Mr Assertive
Mr Assertive is a model of consistency. The Press Statement gelding is rock-hard fit after a lengthy and fruitful campaign, and I suspect his best performance here could prove fences and panels better than his rivals. The inside draw puts one hoof on the till, and he has been heavily supported in most markets. He loves the trip more than an Uber driver, and the Mark & Levi Kavanagh combination must be respected. Ready to win!
Zadar Sunset is a must for all broader multiples and exotics. The Reset mare resumes after a string of impressive barrier trials, and the current track conditions play into her favour. The perfect inside draw will allow her to camp just behind the speed, and if the gaps appear as they run for the doctor, she can figure in the finish. Acid test!
Miss Swift is ready to peak. Both runs this campaign have been ominous, and I suspect she has been trained to the minute for her third-up assignment. The Almanzor mare is a winner at the track previously, and the form around her has stood up time and again. She tends to find one or two better at the pointy end of a contest.
Suggested Bet: Mr Assertive @ $4.20
Geelong Race 7
#3 Winsome Star
Winsome Star is knocking on the door. The Star Turn gelding strips fitter after producing several eye-catching performances this preparation, and the big boy finds a suitable assignment on Wednesday. The early money tells a significant story, and the step out in trip could prove a winning move. The middle gate provides a menagerie of options in the run, and the talented Billy Egan jumps aboard. Hard to toss!
Riproar can run a race at a decent price. The Charm Spirit gelding is coming off a couple of forgive runs with genuine excuses, and it may pay dividends to watch for any significant market support. The drop-in class comes into play, and the apprentice’s claim helps his chances. If the flying Luke Cartwright presents the progressive five-year-old with his run at the right time, he can make his presence felt late.
El Tercero will have plenty of supporters after producing a consistent campaign to date. Jumping from the red rug is advantageous, and his opening quote has been met with healthy support since fields were finalised. The 2kg apprentice claim could provide a winning edge, and the camp are in white-hot form. Dismiss at your own peril!
Suggested Bet: Winsome Star @ $7.00
