The Group 3 Aurie’s Star is the feature event this Saturday at Flemington. With a host of Benchmark events offering competitive racing, all eyes are on headquarters! In New South Wales we start the new racing season at Rosehill Gardens. Find out who our experts are expecting to take home the cash.
Flemington Race 6
#2 It'sourtime
It’sourtime was a brilliant last-start winner at the track and distance. The Time For War gelding won this event last year, and I suspect he has been trained to the minute to defend his title. He gets in well at the weights and is ideally drawn in a middle gate. He is straight-six specialist, and his best form reads incredibly well for this race. Super honest!
Right To Party will start favourite after producing back-to-back victories. The Zoustar mare is flying, and she loves Flemington more than yours truly. She deserves her shot at this level, and I suspect she has further improvement to come for the current campaign. Acid test!
Suggested Bet: It’sourtime @ $6.00
Flemington RACE 7
#8 St Vincents Garden
St Vincents Garden was ultra-impressive at his Australian debut. The Camelot gelding savaged the line late, and he put the writing on the wall for a big second-up performance. The step out in distance is advantageous, and I suspect the big boy will be savaging the line late. He looks well placed in this company, and I expect his quote to shorten significantly before the barriers open. His racing pattern and style will always require an element of good fortune.
Star Vega is racing well without winning. All runs this preparation have been full of merit, and I suspect he has the fitness edge on the majority of his rivals. The longer trip will suit, and the 55.5kg allocated weight looks a luxury in this class. From the wide draw he will drift back and find his hooves, and if he can find some cover throughout, I expect him to make his presence felt late. His recent winning record is the primary concern.
Suggested Bet: St Vincents Garden @ $5.00
#4 Rheinberg
Rheinberg is super reliable. The Swiss Ace gelding is always thereabouts, and he finds his pet distance on Saturday. The six-year-old should be rock-hard fit at this stage of his campaign, and he looks drawn to perfection in a middle gate. The flood of early money indicates another bold showing, and I suspect he will loom to win at the clock tower. Hard to toss!
Gentleman Roy is an ageless marvel. The So You Think gelding returned to the winner’s enclosure last start, and I suspect the old boy has recaptured his mojo. The former Group 1 competitive eight-year-old always grows an extra leg at Flemington, and he looks well placed in this company. The apprentice claim brings him into winning conversations, and I am confident he will pilot the field with a clean and positive start. He will give an all-mighty sight as they run for the doctor.
Suggested Bet: Rheinberg $5.00
Flemington Race 9
#2 Bews
Bews is knocking on the door! All runs this campaign have been good without scoring, and he finds a winnable assignment on Saturday. The 3kg apprentice claim could prove a training masterstroke, and he should get the perfect cart into the race from a middle draw. He will appreciate the sharp drop-in class, and meeting easier opposition plays into his favour. He needs to put another win on the board!
Suggested Bet: Bews @ $5.50
Rosehill Gardens Race 7
#5 Memoria
Memoria is over the odds. The Caravaggio mare finished on the heels of the winner fresh and traditionally performs well second-up. The step out in trip is a positive, and the 3kg apprentice claim could prove the winning difference. From the wide gate, she will roll forward, and if she can find the bunny uncontested, she will look the winner on straightening. Her fate may be decided during the first furlong.
Stromboli will have supporters after turning heads recently at the trials. The Exceed And Excel gelding is a first-up specialist, and his record at the trip is outrageous. From barrier six, I suspect he will sit outside the speed, and if the peloton doesn’t break the clock during the race’s early stages, he will figure in the finish. He tends to find one or two slightly better on race day.
Suggested Bet: Memoria @ $21.00
Rosehill Gardens Race 8
#10 Estadio Mestalla
Estadio Mestalla is edging closer to his next victory. The Galileo Gold gelding looked the winner in the Listed Civic Stakes at Warwick Farm, and he was game in defeat in the South Grafton Cup at his latest outing. He looks awfully dangerous on Saturday jumping from barrier two, and I suspect he will lead the field a merry dance with an even break. With early market support, the Joesph Pride trained commodity will start favourite, and if the heavens open before the barriers do, I suspect his quote will shorten significantly.
Charterhouse keeps finding the line late. The Charming Thought gelding is ready to win, and it is hard to knock his current form. The seven-year-old finds a winnable assignment here, and he has come in extremely well at the weights considering his exposed form. If he doesn’t get too far out of his ground during the race’s early stages, he will make his presence felt late. Watch for the big boy late!
Suggested Bet: Estadio Mestalla @ $6.00
