The Open Championship is heading to Royal Troon this year, and there is no shortage of well-priced candidates vying for the ultimate prize.
Can Scottie continue his incredible form? Will Rory be able to mentally bounce back after Pinehurst? What about the Aussies?
BetDeluxe has scoured the markets and produced a handful of their favourite bets.
Best Bet: Scottie Scheffler
An uncharacteristically poor result at the US Open did nothing to deter the punters ahead of next weekend’s major championship, with the World #1 entering The Open as the $5 favourite with BetDeluxe.
While Scottie managed just +8 across the four days at Pinehurst, he soon put it behind him with a sensational display at the Travelers Championship one week later. After four days of action, Scheffler tied with Tom Kim (-22) and held his nerve to win on the fourth playoff hole.
The Travelers was Scheffler’s sixth title for the year, including the Memorial, RBC Heritage, the Players, Arnold Palmer Invitational and, of course, the Masters in April.
With a career-best result of T8 in 2021, The Open is clearly not Scheffler’s favourite major. However, he has never approached the links-style course with the kind of form and professionalism that’s led to six titles in six months.
Could this be his year?
Suggested Bet: S. Scheffler to win @ $5.70
Next Best: Bryson DeChambeau
When a last-start major winner presents at double figures, who are we to ignore that value?
With the uncertainty surrounding Rory McIlroy’s return to the majors after capitulating at Pinehurst, we’ve chosen the US Open champion at $15.
DeChambeau has certainly worked on his deficiencies and recaptured his best form over the past few months with his US Open victory accompanied by second place in the PGA Championship and T3 at LIV Nashville.
The World #9 and two-time major winner often produces his best golf on the big stage and, after finishing T8 in this tournament in 2022, will be as hungry as ever to capitalise on his red-hot form.
Suggested Bet: B. DeChambeau to win @ $15
Best Value: Cam Smith
Has the Aussie champ been missed in the market?
Smith, who won The Open in 2022 with the equal-best finish (-20) of the modern era, presents incredible value at $41.
While he hasn’t been shooting the lights out in 2024, Smith’s form is seemingly on an upward trajectory, with a T2 at LIV Singapore (May), a T9 at LIV Nashville (June) and a pass mark at the US Open last month.
With one of the best short games in the business, if Smith’s driver can behave itself, he should be well and truly in the finish.
We’re more than happy to take $31 to find out.
Suggested Bet: C. Smith to win @ $41
