Morphettville Tips & Previews, Saturday 21st May

The Goodwood headlines the program for another Group 1 meeting at Morphettville this weekend as the Punter's Prince circles all the best bets and tips.

The Group 1 Goodwood is set to run and win at Morphettville as the Punter’s Prince finds the best bets on the nine-race card.

With the weather set to be calm and refined, the track should play pretty, with all horses getting their chance to win.

The best of the day comes up in the bring sprint with a colt ready to make his mark as a genuine star.

Morphettville race 1

#9 muswellbrook

This is a tough race to start the day.

Muswellbrook represents the best each-way value, with Craig Williams looking to land in a handy spot from a soft barrier.

The pair got too far back from a wide barrier last start and can finish much closer this time.

Form around Not So Glorious makes up the majority of this market.

Suggested Bet: Muswellbrook each-way at $9.5 for the win and $2.80 for the place.

Confidence Rating: 3/10

Morphettville race 2

#9 sweet mary

The odds-on favourite does look too short, but it is another low-confidence race.

Sweet Mary stuck to her task well when winning in BM-64 grade on a heavy track at Bendigo over 1000 metres.

They’ll probably have to go back from the barrier, given the early speed predicted in this race.

It might be best served to have one crack at them late in the race.

Suggested Bet: Sweet Mary each way at $13 for the win and $3.50 for the place.

Confidence Rating: 3/10

morphettville race 3

#12 three tears

The only little query on Three Tears is her ability to run a full 1200 metres.

Her form over the short course in the last two months has been strong and in her favour is the speed map.

Stepping up to 1200 metres might see her landing in the lead and controlling the tempo.

Craig Williams will know what to do, but it is not a race to get overly involved with.

Suggested Bet: Three Tears win at $3.40

Confidence Rating: 4/10

morphettville race 4

#2 maximillius

Having a speculative each-way play at Maximillius, who was very well backed when resuming from a spell.

He failed to live up to the hype but did start a $2.90 favourite in a pretty competitive Caulfield 1200-metre race and has to sit outside the lead.

Race fitness is now on his side.

Not a huge bet, but worth something small.

Suggested Bet: Maximillius each-way at $12 the win and $3 the place.

Confidence Rating: 4/10

morphettville race 5

#2 la dragontea

La Dragontea endured a tough run when making her Australian debut in the Queen Of The South Stakes over 1600 metres.

She loomed into four and five wide but regressed to finish midfield in the last 100 metres.

No doubt she will take plenty of benefit from the run and will find a much easier time of it from the barrier.

Suggested Bet: La Dragontea each way at $5.5 and $2.10 the place.

Confidence Rating: 6.5/10

morphettville race 6

#1 douceur

Douceur’s run in the Australasian Oaks was sensational after pressing forward from a wide barrier and hanging on for fifth.

She was exposed early in the race and was left a sitting duck at the top of the home straight.

She came into the race after pulling up lame the start before, so she now has a great base to make the step up to 2500 metres.

The wide barrier is the concern, but if Mick Dee can press on and tag the back of some of the critical hopes, he might be able to land in a good spot with cover.

Confident she wins if she finds cover.

Suggested Bet: Douceur win at $3.3

Confidence Rating: 7.5/10

morphettville race 7

#3 junipal

Juniper has been building his fitness after nearly a year away from the racing scene.

He is now fourth-up and comes into this race after finishing third in the VOBIS Gold Mile at Caulfield as a $3.2 elect.

Johnny Allen sticks, and barrier one should him get the leaders back.

He will be hard to keep out of a top-three position with a bit of luck.

Suggested Bet: Junipal at $7 for the win and $2.30 for the place.

Confidence Rating: 7/10

morphettville race 8

#19 extreme warrior

The new colt on the scene brings an entirely different form line to this race.

He comes to an 1100-metre Caulfield event where he started as a $1.90 favourite and won despite circumstances against him.

His first-up run has to be at least 5-7 lengths worth of elevation given how unconditioned he was, and he did sweat up badly behind the barriers.

They won’t beat. Him if he has travelled well and parades in good.

He started a $3.4 favourite in the Coolmore Stud Stakes behind gun sprinter Home Affairs.

He gets the weight pull on the older horses, and he can follow his stablemate, Lombardo, into the race.

Suggested Bet: Extreme Warrior each-way at $5.5 for the win and $2.25 for the place.

Confidence Rating: 9/10

morphettville race 9

#2 bless her

She has not had much luck with this preparation.

She should have finished much close to Extreme Warrior when second-up after running a very nice last 400 metres but being held up in the last little bit of the race.

Her last start was on a bog track in the Wangoom Handicap, which she did not handle.

Getting back onto a drier deck and finding Jamie Kah are big ticks.

Suggested Bet: Bless Her each-way at $11 the win and $3.10 the place.

Confidence Rating: 7/10
