Australian Open Mens Preview & Tips

Will Novak play? That is the big question as the BetDeluxe tennis experts preview a huge 2022 edition of the Men's Australian Open.

We take a look into some of the big names ahead of the upcoming Australian Open.

novak djokovic

He will always make headlines around the globe, but Novak Djokovic has been the talk of the town since arriving in Melbourne last week.

The world number one was cleared to play by the Federal Court of Australia, but there is still a chance he might be taken out of the country and forced to miss the tournament due to health and safety protocols.

Regardless, if he is to play, then he is the logical favourite to win the tournament.

Djokovic has won the Australian Open a record nine times and would become outright first on the grand slam charts should he make it a tenth.

We have become so accustom to his brilliant stamina and his ability to defend points like no other player in tennis history.

The $2.50 on offer at the moment is a risk in the all-in markets given his status in the tournament is still unknown.

But that price could very well be a steal if he is given the green light.

Daniil Medvedev

Daniil Medvedev is a massive chance to win the Australian Open even if Novak Djokovic does play.

Medvedev has been truck loaded in the betting and is now the outright $2.4 favourite to win the tournament.

The 25-year-old Russian has been seeded at number two and can take the confidence of a straight-set US Open Grand Slam Championship win over Djokovic as the platform he needs to in order to win this event.

Medvedev has a brutally powerful double-handed backhand that is hard to stop once it gets into a rhythm.

As he has matured, he has become more adept at covering the court and it really showed in his 6-4, 6-4, 6-4 win against Djokovic at the US Open Final last year.

Alex Zverez

We are dubbing him “The German AMG.”

Alexander Zverez is full of pace, excitement and entertainment, much like the Mercedes we have compared him to.

The 24-year-old German is yet to win a grandslam, but might have his best opportunity yet if Novak Djokovic misses out.

Zverev was knocked out of his lead-up event to the Australian Open quite early by gun Canadian Felix Auger-Alliasime, however, we doubt he will be too perturbed by that.

His eye is firmly on the grandslam prize.

He needs to turn that explosive x-factor into a more consistent level of performance over tournament to give himself the best chance at bettering his 2020 semi-final appearance – his best result at the Australian Open to date.

Alexander Zverev to win the Australian Open = $3.50

Rafael nadal

The old Spanish fox might very well be playing his final Australian Open.

Rafael Nadal enters his 16th Australian Open campaign as a 25-year-old veteran of the ATP and Grand Slam Tour.

That synonymous whipping forehand will be on display for the Melbourne Park crowd to see and we know it is going to take him a long way into potentially winning his second Australian Open crown.

The only issue for him is a whole bunch of niggling injury issues he faced towards the back end of 2021 which kept him out of Wimbledon and the US Open.

Rafael Nadal to win the Australian Open = $9

jannik sinner

The newest up-and-coming prospect of the grand slam calendar is a young man by the name of Jannik Sinner.

He has catapulted his way through the ATP rankings and currently sits at 11th with plenty of scope for improvement given he is still only 20 years old.

The Italian went to the fourth round on the hard courts of the US Open in 2021 and can use that as a building block to go deep into the Australian Open this year.

He is not a household name just yet, but if he can elevate on what he did on the tour in 2021, some grandslam trophy ware is only just around the corner.

Jannik Sinner to win the Australian Open = $17
