Port Adelaide vs. Western Bulldogs
September 11th 7:40pm
Port Adelaide will never get a better chance to make a grand final under Ken Hinkley when it faces a wounded Western Bulldogs outfit in the second preliminary final at Adelaide Oval.
The Bulldogs will be without key defender Alex Keath and gun forward Cody Weightman, while there is still some doubt over the fitness of captain and champion midfielder Marcus Bontempelli.
Port Adelaide, too, will miss focal forward Mitch Georgiades again after he re-injured his troublesome hamstring at training, but the Power have been able to deal without him this finals series.
These teams faced each other twice in the home and away season with the Dogs delivering a stunning win at this very venue back in Round 9 with the Power returning the favour at Marvel Stadium in Round 23.
This is going to come down to a pure battle of the midfields.
Brownlow favourite Ollie Wines alongside his veteran sidekick Travis Boak will go head to head with a Dogs midfield that bats deeper than any in the league.
The omissions for the Dogs will hurt probably be the ‘straw that broke the camel’s back’ and Port Adelaide will hunt in packs to ensure Charlie Dixon is isolated against a small Dogs back line.
Prediction: Port Adelaide by 35 points
Suggested Bet: Port Adelaide -14.5 at $1.89
Suggested Same Game Multi:
Leg 1: Port Adelaide -14.5
Leg 2: Total points over 151.5
Leg 3: T. Boak 25+ disposals
Leg 4: C. Dixon 2+ goals
Combined odds = $5.75
First goal scorer
C. DIxon/L. Vandermeer
Very bullish about Charlie Dixon being a dominant force in this game with the omission of Alex Keath.
Dixon can bully the Dogs back line and with the supply he is likely to receive from this gun Port Adelaide midfield he can hit the scoreboard early and be the barometer for his side.
The Dogs tall timber, meanwhile, is going to have contend with the likes of Aliir Aliir, Tom Jonas and Trent McKenzie swinging across to intercept any aerial threat posed by the dogs.
It could allow someone Laitham Vandermeer to slide under the radar and prove a pest as a nifty small forward.
Suggested Bet:
C. Dixon first goal at $9
L. Vandermeer first goal at $21
Total points scored
over 151.5
With the weather in Adelaide certain to be cool and clear, expect this to be a free-flowing high-scoring game between two of the best teams in the competition.
The Bulldogs back line does look a bit vulnerable to leak a few goals without Alex Keath down there.
When the two teams met here in Round 9 the score went well over the 151.5 target set at the moment with a combined score of 173 points.
Suggested Bet: Total points scored over 151.5 at $1.90
