Sale Tips & Previews, Sunday 22nd August

The Wizard of Odds ends the week with the best bets from Sunday.

The Wizard of Odds heads to the Eastern outskirts of Victoria for the best bets at Sale to end a big weekend of racing.

Danny O’Brien has a three-year-old colt ready to make a winning statement, while Jamie Kah takes the ride on a first starter who looks ready to win.

SAle race 2

#4 Grinzinger Knight

Looks as though this is the main ride of the day for gun jockey Damian Lane who nabs the ride off Fred Kersley.

The first-up run by this three-year-old colt at Bendigo in a high pressure 1400-metre event was actually quite good given how frantic the early speed was.

He was doing his best work late in the race, finding the line nicely with a lack of race fitness probably taking its toll on him during the run.

The soft hands and balance of Lane should have this horse positioned somewhere near the lead from barrier two.

He should be winning this race on his way to some black-type staying races in the spring.

Suggested Bet: Grinzinger Knight win at $3.2

Sale race 3

#9 Inverell

If his trial is anything to go by, Inverell possesses more than enough talent to win a maiden race on debut.

Loved the early speed he showed for a horse of his staying pedigree in a 1190-metre trial at Cranbourne.

He held down third spot when being asked for a small effort in the straight and not far behind the city-performed Alloway.

The OTI-owned galloper is a stayer in the making with his sire being Melbourne Cup winner Shocking.

Jamie Kah has been plucked to ride the horse for her partner Clayton Douglas and the pair can make this a winning start to this gelding’s career.

Suggested Bet: Inverell each-way at $5 the win and $2 the place.

Sale race 7

#13 Finnick

Finnick was a whisker away from victory last start when being pipped on the line by Florida Dream at Sale over 1746 metres in BM-64 grade.

The Susie Wells-trained gelding was only second-up from a spell that day and did a fantastic job to finish as close as he did given the lack of a rock solid fitness base to run out what was a high-pressure race.

He goes up in grade here, but that is offset by a drop in the weights as well as the booking of Celine Gaudary who will claim 1.5kgs.

Barrier two represents the chance to settle a pair back from the leaders and he will not have to spend too many petrol tickets early.

Expecting a big race from this seven-year-old gelding.

Suggested Bet: Finnick each-way at $8.5 the win and $2.9 the place.

Suggested Exotic: Boxed Trifecta – 1, 5, 12, 13

Sale race 8

#6 Rigel Star

Rigel Star has been jumping out well in preparation for a first-up assault over 1013 metres at Sale.

His first jumpout was a nice second behind Found Our Thrill and he was then guided to a win in his second jumpout on August 9 under a grip.

The four-year-old gelding is a proven performer when resuming from a spell after he bolted in with his maiden victory first-up last preparation.

His next run was a brave effort when getting way too far back at the on-pace favoured track of Mornington and was spelled immediately after.

Looks to have come back a fully furnished race horse.

Suggested Bet: Rigel Star win at $4.4

Suggested Exotic: Quinella 2 & 6
