Mildura Tips & Previews, Monday 9th August

The best tips and previews from Echuca as we head into the first week of the new racing season.

The Wizard of Odds heads north to Mildura for the best bets.

He is a tipping a big improver in race one.

Mildura Race 1

#2 Kia Hohe

Kia Hohe failed miserably on debut at Ararat over 1100 metres.

The then three-year-old gelding was beaten by nearly nine lengths and pulled up sore from the run.

He now arrives into this race as a four-year-old and off the the back of a solid trial and nice jumpout.

The blinkers have been applied for the first time in his racing career and it looks like they will spark some improvement into his form.

The odds-on favourite is clearly the one to get through here but this gelding can run a bold race at long odds.

Suggested Bet: Kia Hohe each-way at $20 the win and $5.5 the place.

Suggested Exotic: Quinella – 2 & 4

Mildura Race 2

#7 Fiorente Spritz

Taking a set against the odds-on favourite here and siding with the four-year-old mare Fiorente Spritz.

She has a solid base to run a strong 1200 metres upon resuming from her spell.

Trainer Paul Preusker has given her time to mature into a fully fledged racehorse after a debut run at Colac saw her hit the line nicely to run third.

She enters this race off two moderate jumpouts, but that should not worry punters given the trainer rarely has his gallopers revved up for jumpouts.

Expecting her to map well in advance of the favourite and that should see us gain the advantage here.

Suggested Bet: Fiorente Spritz win at $2.4

Mldura Race 4

#7 Coconut Queen

Siding with Paul Preusker again here, this time in the form of Coconut Queen.

She raced well behind Brawl and Chadstone of which the former came out and won at Colac over 2250 metres on Sunday.

Coconut Queen was grinding way behind those two horses and hitting the line like a horse who is screaming for a rise in distance.

She gets up to 2000 metres in this race and gets the services of in-form hoop Dean Holland to make the right decisions in the run.

Suggested Bet: Coconut Queen win at $4

Suggested Exotic: Boxed Trifecta – 1, 7, 10

Mildura Race 6

#8 Saasmit

Saasmit resumes over 1000 metres in one of the easiest she has faced in her career thus far.

She raced as a two-year-old last season and finished behind the likes of Dosh and Ingratiating to suggest she is a city class horse.

Ciaron Maher & Dave Eustace put her away to spell after three career runs and she returns here after two solid enough jumpouts.

Expect her to settle in the rear half of the field and then attempt to pick off each runner one by one as she enters the straight.

Suggested Bet: Saasmit win at $3.2
