A maiden Wimbledon crown is on offer for world number one and Australia’s great hope Ashleigh Barty when she clashes with Karolina Pliskova in the women’s final.
Barty swept aside German veteran Angelique Kerber with a straight sets 6-2, 7-5 victory in the semi-finals, while Pliskova grinded her way to a 5-7, 6-4, 6-4 win over world number four Aryna Sabalenka.
It’s a 5-2 advantage at the head to head between the two ladies in favour of the 25-year-old Australian.
Barty has won the three last three encounter against Pliskova but the pair share a 1-1 record on grass.
The win on grass for Pliskova came when Barty’s tennis career was in its infancy but she has now grown into a fully fledged champion.
Barty deserves the favourite tag in this final.
With a gulf of ranking points between the world number one and her eighth seeded opponent it’s easy to see why.
The court coverage and power of Barty will be too much for Pliskova to handle as it has been in the last three matches between the two.

Novak Djokovic vs. Matteo Berrettini

The Italian flavour has been doused around London again as Matteo Berrettini takes to the court for his first ever grand slam final when he faces Novak Djokovic.
With the Italians having already qualified for the Euro 2020, it’s now up to 25-year-old Italian Berrettini to make it a big start to the day but Djokovic is in superb form.
The world number one has only dropped one set at the All England Club grand slam, while Berrettini has dropped three on his way to the final.
Both players traded blows for the second time their careers when meeting at the quarter finals of Roland Garros as Djokovic kept his unbeaten record against Berrettini intact with a four-set victory.
The conundrum facing the world number nine is that he may very well have had his best chance to knock off Djokovic at a grand slam at the clay courts of the French Open given it is the Serbian’s weakest surface.
Berrettini has the stamina and court coverage to match it with Djokovic for the majority of this final.
But that will not good enough to beat the 19-time grand slam champion who will likely take home his sixth Wimbledon title.
