With autumn fast approaching, and with the return of our “A graders” imminent, please find below our top 5 contenders to follow over the coming months.
Autumn Contenders
Tentyris
Tentyris has all the markings of a superstar. The Stress Boss colt possesses a significant turn of foot, and his win in the Coolmore Stud Stakes was simply breathtaking and still fresh in the memory bank.
His tactical speed is first-class, and the form around him has stood up time and again. The Black Caviar Lightning and the time-honoured Newmarket Handicap look to be at his mercy, and I expect him to stamp his authority during the upcoming autumn carnivals and beyond.
The Everest will be the primary long-term aim; however, he has a couple of autumn Group 1s to take care of in the meantime. Big watch!
Autumn Contenders
Angel Capital
Angel Capital is still raw and explosive. His performances during the spring in feature events turned the heads of punters, and I suspect the penny still hasn’t dropped completely,
The Harry Angel entire is listed on most Group 1 all-in markets, and his versatility and durability will make him competitive in anything and everything he lines-up in.
From a sprint to a middle-distance event, he can’t be discounted, and with the Chris Waller polish being applied, his owners are in for a memorable autumn. The Futurity looks the first logical target.
Autumn Contenders
Autumn Boy
Autumn Boy was a brilliant winner of the Caulfield Guineas during the spring. The blue blood put his rivals to the sword a long way from home, and he simply oozes class.
If he comes on from his last preparation, I suspect he is in for a significant campaign, and I expect the camp to have a throw at the stumps with some time-honoured features.
The Australian Guineas and Randwick Guineas look the obvious targets; however, a Doncaster Mile could be on the radar.
Autumn Contenders
Autumn Glow
Baby Winx or Little Caviar has passed every test to date. The undefeated mare by The Autumn Sun has been a revelation during the last 18 months, and her spring campaign was a thing of beauty.
She won the 4th fastest Epsom in history despite covering more ground than the early settlers throughout, and her victory in the Golden Eagle was as resilient as they come.
The autumn and the world are her oyster, and I expect her to start favourite in any event she enters. The brilliant four-year-old has a menagerie of options moving forward, and if there is any trainer to nurture and protect a picket fence, it’s Chris Waller.
Autumn Contenders
Linebacker
Linebacker is the long-range blowout for the Doncaster Mile at $26. The Super Seth gelding loves a Randwick mile, and his win over Broadsiding at the track and distance is still fresh in the memory bank.
The camp has a high opinion of the progressive four-year-old, and the big boy turned heads when defeating the best sprinter in the world, Kaying Rising, in arguably the most publicised barrier trial of all time.
He will come in well at the weights in most feature events he enters, and don’t be surprised if he is trained to the minute to explode for one major event. Don’t let him slip under your radar.
