Kensington and Mornington are the places to be this Wednesday. With plenty of value on offer and competitive benchmark racing expected at both venues, find out below who our experts are expecting to take home the mid-week chocolates!
Kensington Race 5
#1 Art's Alive
Art’s Alive resumes with an air of expectation. The Snitzel mare is a first-up specialist, and her record at the trip must be respected. The inside draw is advantageous, and the 3kg apprentice claim could prove the winning difference. The current track conditions suit to a tee, and the flood of early money speaks volumes. Hard to toss!
Big Red Tequila is racing well at present. Her first-up victory was classy, and she was game in defeat at her latest outing. The Shamus Award mare strips fitter as a result of recent racing, and she looks well placed in this company. Her wet form alone puts her into the mix, and a middle gate will allow her to roll forward and camp just behind the leaders’ backs. She will be thereabouts again, with even luck in transit.
Inferencia can run a drum at a decent price. The Inference mare tends to mix her form, however, she resumes after producing a string of impressive barrier trials. She is a winner previously first-up from a spell, and the 1000m is a perfect starting point for her winter campaign. I would prefer to support her case over further and deeper into her campaign.
Suggested Bet: Art’s Alive @ $15.00
Kensington RACE 7
#2 Maupassant
Maupassant makes his Australian debut on Wednesday. Two recent jump-outs caught the eyes of punters, and he has been well supported in most all-in markets. The 3kg apprentice claim could prove a training masterstroke, and I suspect the big boy can springboard into some serious autumn events with a victory here. The middle gate provides a menagerie of options, and if the heavens continue to open, his rivals may be running for the minor end of the prize. Big watch at a price!
Mirra Impact is a model of consistency. The Lonhro gelding is always thereabouts, and the form around him has stood up time and again. The step out in trip plays into his favour, and I suspect he has the fitness edge after a lengthy and fruitful campaign. The inside draw will ensure a soft trip throughout, and if he sees clear air as they run for the doctor, I expect him to figure in the finish. His recent winning record is the primary concern.
Fay’s Angels is knocking on the door. The Anacheeva mare doesn’t know how to run a bad race, and she always looks the winner inside the final furlong. The drop in trip could prove the winning difference, and I suspect she will appreciate meeting easier opposition. She tends to find one or two better as the camera approaches.
Suggested Bet: Maupassant @ $31.00
Mornington Race 5
#3 Viasain
Viasain looks extremely well placed. The Zousain gelding was a brilliant first-up winner at Kyneton, and he was ok without threatening in a hot form race at his latest outing. I suspect the Mornington circuit will suit his racing pattern and style, and he is ready to explode on Wednesday. The inform Jamie Mott has a good association with the progressive four-year-old, and his opening quote has been met with great support. The one to beat!
Brandjam will have plenty of supporters after producing two eye-catching performances for the campaign. The Alabama Express gelding looks ready to peak, and I suspect he has been trained to the minute for his third-up assignment. The middle gate will allow the enigmatic galloper to pilot the field, and if he can cheat the clock throughout, he will look the winner as heads turn for home. Major player!
Double Pi can surprise her more fancied rivals fresh. The Pierata mare excels first-up, and she finds her pet trip on Wednesday. The inside draw will allow her to occupy the box-seat throughout, and the 2kg apprentice claim puts her into all winning conversations. She may need some luck getting off the dulex as they swing the final bend. Watch for any significant late market support!
Suggested Bet: Viasain @ $4.00
Mornington Race 7
#4 Flash Of Dallas
Flash Of Dallas was a brilliant last-start winner at Wodonga. The Tavistock mare deserves her shot at this level, and the step out in trip puts her into the mix. The big girl will drift back from the middle gate and find her hooves, and if she stays in touch with the peloton during the middle stages of the event, she can loom to win late. Her racing pattern and style always requires an element of good fortune.
Draw Attention will start favourite after racing at a higher level against some quality and proven gallopers. The middle gate is advantageous, and the Peter Moody and Luke Nolen combination must be respected. The step out in trip is perfect at this stage of her campaign, and her opening quote disappeared faster than last week’s pay. She tends to find one or two better at the pointy end of a contest.
Squander is over the odds. The Grunt mare is flying at present, and the precocious mare is chasing a hat-trick of victories after producing two dominant performances on the provincial circuit. The inside draw looks ominous, and the step up in trip won’t pose any problems. The handicapper has missed her with the allocated weight, and I expect her double-figure quote to shorten before the barriers open. A must for all broader multiples and exotics.
Suggested Bet: Flash Of Dallas @ $7.00
