The Group 2 P.B. Lawrence Stake is the feature event this Saturday at Caulfield. With spring in the air and a host of Listed and Group events front and centre, all roads lead to the people’s heath! In Sydney, we continue the new racing season at Rosehill Gardens. The Listed Rosebud is the feature event on a stunning program or racing.
Caulfield Race 6
#4 Arabian Summer
Arabian Summer resumes with lofty spring goals. The Too Darn Hot filly has built an impressive career record to date, and I suspect she will go to another level this campaign. The 1100m is ideal first-up, and I expect her to find the bunny with a clean break from the barriers. The talented three-year-old possesses a savage turn of foot, and I am confident she will lead her rivals a merry dance throughout on Saturday. Hard to toss!
Kuroyanagi was good without winning first-up in a hot-form race in Adelaide. The step out in distance is advantageous, and the Written Tycoon filly strips fitter after her recent outing. A recent barrier trial was ominous, and I suspect her quote will shorten significantly before the gates open. Her fate may be decided during the first furlong.
Suggested Bet: Arabian Summer @ $3.20
Caulfield RACE 7
#8 Arkansaw Kid
Arkansaw Kid returns to racing slightly lighter. The son of Harry Angel received the ultimate gear change, and he turned heads recently at the jumpouts. The four-year-old traditionally races well fresh, and his record at the track and distance must be respected. The big boy looks well placed in this company, and I suspect the seventeen Hayes brothers will have him ready for a first-up tilt. Big watch!
It’sourtime is super honest. The Time For War gelding was good without threatening in the Aurie’s Star, and his best performance here could simply blow away his rivals. His record at the distance is outrageous, and he should get a perfect cart into the race with the predicated and expected frenetic pace up front. I would prefer to promote the consistent seven-year-old at headquarters.
Suggested Bet: Arkansaw Kid @ $4.80
#1 Pericles
Pericles can start his spring campaign with a bang. The Street Boss gelding has placed in some of our biggest races during the previous twelve months, and he looks extremely well placed on Saturday in the feature event on the program. The talented five-year-old traditionally motors fresh; I suspect 1400m is his pet distance. There has been good market support since acceptances, and I expect his quote to shorten significantly before he pings the lids. Hard to toss.
Munhamek is the ultimate professional. The old boy has won his last three starts on his ear, and he seems to be improving despite being eligible for his P-Plates next year. A little freshen-up between runs could prove fruitful, and I suspect he will thrive dropping back to the 1400m. The 59kg won’t pose any problems, and I expect him to be savaging the line late. His racing pattern and style will always require an element of good fortune.
Suggested Bet: Pericles $3.00
Caulfield Race 9
#16 Elouyou
Elouyou looks the good thing on a tricky and competitive program of racing. The So You Think gelding finally broke through for a well-deserved victory last start, and his form prior was rock-solid. From barrier four, he will roll forward and pilot the field, and if he can pinch some cheap sectionals throughout, he may prove hard to run down. He will look the winner inside the final furlong.
Tijuana is overdue for his next victory. All runs this campaign have been full of merit, and he has shown glimpses of his best in this preparation. The current track conditions will suit, and he has been well supported at a price in early betting. He traditionally performs well at Caulfield; the 1400m is in his wheelhouse. Take on trust!
Suggested Bet: Elouyou @ $2.40
Rosehill Gardens Race 6
#2 Gatsby's
Gatsby’s will start favourite after producing a promising debut campaign. The Snitzel colt has plenty of upside, and his recent barrier trial win put the writing on the wall for a fruitful spring. From the awkward barrier, he will jump and cross the field, and if the enigmatic three-year-old can pinch a break as they run for the doctor, he may prove hard to run down. It will pay dividends to follow him moving forward.
Shangri La Express is a speed machine. The Alabama Express colt has raced well against the best of his age group, and he has trialled exceptionally well coming into this event. The 1100m is ideal fresh, and I suspect he will push forward from the middle gate. The Gai Waterhouse-trained three-year-old has been specked at a price, and I am confident he has been set for a first-up tilt. Carrying the allocated weight is his biggest challenge.
Suggested Bet: Gatsby’s @ $3.80
Rosehill Gardens Race 8
#4 Hinged
Hinged is an owner’s dream! The talented mare has won $1.2 million in prize money and has been competitive in some of our biggest races. The six-year-old produced two ominous trials leading into this first-up assignment, and the 3kg apprentice claim puts one hoof on the till. The rain in Sydney town strengthens her case further, and she looks extremely well-placed in this company. Nine hundred days without a victory is the primary concern.
Chorlton Lane is coming off a couple forgive runs. The form prior was outstanding, and he deserves his shot at this level on Saturday. The Mehmas gelding will appreciate the 54.5kg, and his record at 1400m is simply outstanding. His recent form and performances in the wet are among the primary concerns.
Suggested Bet: Hinged @ $6.00
