The racing spotlight shifts to Caulfield this Saturday. With a host of competitive benchmark events featuring, a healthy local contingent is expected trackside! In Sydney, all racing fans are praying for some sunshine and a good surface! Find out who our experts are expecting to take home the cash.
Caulfield Race 6
#11 Lauding
Lauding looks hard to toss first-up from a spell. The Proisir gelding traditionally races well fresh, and he has been extremely well-placed here by Australia’s premier trainer. From a perfect inside draw, I expect him to occupy the box seat throughout, and if the gaps appear as they run for the doctor, he will figure in the finish.
Alder makes his Victorian debut for the inform Busuttin and Young camp. The Australia gelding boasts some serious international form, and he has been specked at a price in early betting. A recent jumpout turned heads, and I suspect he has been set for a first-up tilt. It may pay dividends to watch for any further market support.
Suggested Bet: Lauding @ $5.00
Caulfield RACE 7
#6 Major Share
Major Share has started his career with a wing on every hoof. The Overshare gelding remains undefeated, and he has been ultra-impressive each time he has stepped onto a racecourse. The 1100m won’t cause any problems, and I suspect there is still plenty of upside and improvement to come for the campaign. Push the chips in!
Gitalong was brilliant without winning fresh. The Zoustar gelding strips fitter after his recent outing, and I suspect he is ready for the longer trip at this stage of his preparation. From the carpark draw, he will cross the field and look for the pole position. If he can avoid an early speed battle, he will have one hand on the cookie jar as they swing to the final bend. The first 200m may decide his fate.
Suggested Bet: Major Share @ $4.20
#2 Recommendation
Recommendation looks one of the better bets on a tricky program of racing. He has been smashed since market opened, and I suspect his quote will continue to shorten until the barriers open. The Shalaa gelding is a first-up specialist, and he finds his pet distance on Saturday. From barrier six, he will ping the lids and find the bunny, and if he can control the tempo throughout, the fat lady will be singing a long way from home.
Ashford Street is coming off a forgive run. The Moshe gelding was flying prior to the luckless performance, and it may pay dividends to forget he went around last start. The rising seven-year-old is too consistent to dismiss, and his record at the trip should give his rivals sleepless nights leading into this event. His racing pattern and style will always require an element of good fortune.
Suggested Bet: Recommendation $3.00
Caulfield Race 9
#1 Blaze A Trail
Blaze A Trail is over the odds. He was blocked for a run at a crucial stage fresh in the Eye Liner at Ipswich and is a proven second-up performer. The Criterion gelding is versatile, and the 3kg apprentice claim could prove a training masterstroke. From barrier five, he will sit midfield with cover, and if he is presented with his run at the right time, I expect him to fight out the finish. Hard to toss!
Chorlton Lane was too poor to be true at his latest outing. The Mehmas gelding was chasing a hatrick of wins, and favourite punters were left scratching their heads. From barrier one he can camp on the leaders back throughout, and if can get off the dulex before the whips are cracking, I expect him to make his presence felt late.
Suggested Bet: Blaze A Trail @ $10.00
Randwick Race 7
#8 Nails Murphy
Nails Murphy is knocking on the door! All runs this campaign have been full of merit, and I suspect his next victory is just around the corner. The Sioux Nation gelding has been screaming out for the mile since the moon landing, and he should save every inch of turf throughout jumping from the perfect inside barrier. This looks a very winnable assignment!
The well named Ha Ha Ha will have supporters despite racing ungenerously at her most recent outing. It may pay to forgive the Dark Angel mare who turned heads fresh, and the Nash Rawiller and Gai Waterhouse combination should never be underestimated. She traditionally performs well third-up from a spell, and her record at the distance brings her into all winning calculations. Jumping from Bondi Icebergs is the primary concern.
Suggested Bet: Nails Murphy @ $4.50
Randwick Race 8
#5 Testator Silens
Testator Silens is ready to explode. The Star Witness gelding was narrowly beaten at his latest outing, and I suspect he has been trained to the minute for this event. The 1400m looks ideal at this stage of his preparation, and he will appreciate meeting similar opposition. rom barrier eight, he will drift back and watch the race unfold, and if he doesn’t get too far out of his ground during the early stages of the race, I expect him to figure in the finish.
Tijuana is fast approaching D-Day. The once-flying Group 1 competitive three-year-old keeps promising the world and delivering an atlas! His performances earlier this campaign at Warrnambool and Swan Hill were promising, and his best showing here could be fences and panels better than his rivals. His recent winning record is the biggest deterrent.
Suggested Bet: Testator Silens @ $3.50
