Canterbury Park and Caulfield Heath take centre stage this Wednesday. With autumn in full swing, and with plenty of prizemoney up for grabs, find out who our experts are expecting to take home the cash. Mid-week racing has never looked so good!
Canterbury Park Race 5
#2 Casual Connection
Casual Connection is ready to peak. Both runs this preparation have been full of merit, and he has been screaming out for the longer trip since the moon landing. He will save every inch of ground from barrier three in the run, and the 3kg apprentice claim could prove a training masterstroke. He looks well placed in this class, and I expect him to produce a bold showing at a decent double-figure quote.
Earth Dance was good in his Australian debut. He has had a little freshen-up between outings and gets to a more favourable journey on Wednesday. From barrier seven, he will drift back and anchor the field, and if he doesn’t get too far out of his ground during the early stages of the race, he can loom to win late. It may pay dividends to watch for any late significant market support.
For Victory is knocking on the door. The Mehmas gelding very rarely misses the trifecta, and his performances this campaign have caught the eye. The step out to 1900m is advantageous, and he meets a suitable field. There shouldn’t be any excuses from barrier two, and I suspect this has been a targeted event. Seems to always find one better.
Suggested Bet: Casual Connection @ $14.00
Canterbury Park RACE 6
#4 Wizard Of Oz
Wizard Of Oz is knocking on the door. Both runs this campaign have been ominous, and he usually performs well at this stage of his campaign. The talented five-year-old will be suited by the significant drop in grade, and if he can overcome a tricky alley, he can win a decent price. He has been nibbled in early betting and is too classy and consistent to overlook!
Anagain was good without winning fresh at Wyong. The step out in trip is advantageous, and she is a second-up specialist. From barrier eight she will sit midfield with cover, and if Tim Clark presses the go button at the right time, she can figure in the finish. She needs to put another win on the board.
Power Of The Brave is over the odds. His recent form is better than it reads in the guide, and it may pay to forgive his luckless first-up performance. The camp are training winners for fun at present, and his record second-up must be respected. If the leaders over race during the early stages of the event, he can capitalise in the shadows. Watch for the big boy late!
Suggested Bet: Wizard Of Oz @ $10.00
Caulfield Heath Race 4
#1 Calico Jack
Calico Jack can resume a winner. The Merchant Navy gelding has trialled exceptionally well leading into his first-up assignment, and his best form reads incredibly well for this event. From barrier one he can occupy the box-seat throughout, and if the gaps appear as they run for the doctor, he can figure in the finish. The allocated weight is the primary concern.
Jewel Bay will have plenty of supporters after turning heads at the jumpouts. The Cable Bay gelding is undefeated fresh, and the 3kg apprentice claim brings him into all winning conversations. The talented three-year-old looks well-placed in this company, and I expect him to get a soft run in transit from the middle draw. His recent winning record is the biggest deterrent.
Togetherforever will start favourite after a stunning last-start victory at Ballarat. The lightly raced Impending mare has made a fantastic start to her racing career, and she deserves her shot at this level. The enigmatic four-year-old year has the services of champion hoop Jamie Kah, and the Michael Hickmott camp are training winners for fun at present. Her racing pattern and style will always require an element of luck.
Suggested Bet: Calico Jack @ $9.50
Caulfield Heath Race 7
#2 Kings Consort
Kings Consort is over the odds. The Ilovethiscity gelding is coming off a forgive run at Sandown, and his form prior was rock-solid. He will appreciate the significant drop in grade, and he looks dangerous jumping from the perfect inside barrier. The big boy is always thereabouts, and the Benchmark 64 shouldn’t hold any fears. I suspect he is approaching D-Day and needs to put another win on the board.
The Creator was a brilliant last-start winner at Pakenham. The Wrote gelding led his rivals a merry dance throughout, and it was an easy watch for favourite punters. From barrier 11, he can ping the lids and pilot the field, and if he can control the clock throughout, he can record back-to-back victories. An early-speed battle may decide his fate early.
Albanian I Am is racing well at present. The Impending gelding looks perfectly placed over the mile, and I suspect he has the fitness edge on the majority of his rivals. From the middle gate he can sit midfield with cover, and if he is presented with his run at the right time, he can make his presence felt late. He can surprise his more fancied rivals at a decent quote.
Suggested Bet: Kings Consort @ $20.00
