Arguably, the best day on the racing calendar is here! With a lazy five Group 1 events front and centre at Rosehill Gardens, highlighted by the running of the world’s richest two-year-old race on turf, the Golden Slipper, this is one Super Saturday punters and racing fans cannot afford to miss. Down south, Moonee Valley comes to the party with the Group 1 William Reid, and with Imperatriz, the best sprinting mare since Black Caviar, lining up, a bumper crowd is expected in Moonee Ponds. What a time to be alive!
Rosehill Race 5
#1 Think It Over
Think It Over lowered the colours of Fangirl at his latest outing. The rising nine-year-old by So You Think was given the perfect ride throughout, and he was tough and brave when it mattered the most. The step out to 2000m is advantageous, and I suspect he is ready to peak third-up from a spell. He can occupy the box seat from barrier two, and if he is presented with his run at the right time, he can win again. The predicted rain circling Sydney may shorten his quote significantly.
Buckaroo is ready to win. The Fastnet Rock entire was held up at a crucial stage fresh in the Apollo, and he traditionally performs well second-up from a spell. The longer trip suits, and I suspect Ryan Moore will have him in a forward position from a perfect inside draw. His recent winning record in Australia is the primary concern.
Suggested Bet: Think It Over @ $3.00
Rosehill RACE 6
#4 Tom Kitten
Tom Kitten was an excellent thing licked last start in the Group 1 Randwick Guineas. He saw plenty of the dulex in the home straight, and it was a horror watch for those who took the juicy price. The last time we saw the Harry Angel colt step out over 2000m, he won by four lengths, and I suspect he is going better in this current preparation. He looks one of the better bets on the program; however, Tom has the rare ability of finding trouble in most of his races. Pray for daylight!
King Colorado is coming off a forgive run in the Group 1 Australian Guineas. The Kingman colt bled internally and was far from disgraced at the top level. His early performances during this campaign were first-class, and the last time we saw him over the longer trip, he rubbed shoulders with Romantic Warrior and Mr Brightside. He is too classy and valuable to dismiss, and I suspect the inform camp will have him cherry ripe for Saturday’s assignment. A fantastic galloper with a great group of owners. Best of luck!
Suggested Bet: Tom Kitten @ $4.00
Rosehill Race 7
#12 Amenable
Amenable was tossed first-up as a long odds-on favourite at Flemington. The Lonhro gelding was visually a run short in the mounting yard, and I suspect he didn’t enjoy piloting the field. He strips fitter after his fresh outing, and I expect the 1500m will be perfect at this stage of his campaign. His spring form was outrageous, and if can find an extra length or two post the ultimate gear change, he can cause a boil-over. From barrier four, he will camp on the leader’s back, and if Mark Zahra can weave a clear passage as they run for the doctor, I expect him to fight out the finish. Over the odds!
Think About It was slightly disappointing first-up in the Group 1 Canterbury Stakes. The muddling tempo didn’t suit the Everest Champion, and he was off the bridle a long way from home. The So You Think gelding is ready for his first crack at 1500m, and he is too classy and brilliant to dismiss. The carpark draw doesn’t help his case, and I am unsure he has returned to racing at the top of his game.
Suggested Bet: Amenable @ $17.00
Rosehill Race 8
#1 Storm Boy
Storm Boy stares destiny in the face. The undefeated Justify colt could be a generational star, and he is showing all signs on and off the track that the triple crown is well within his reach. His victory in the Magic Millions was breathtaking, and I scarily suspect he has further improvement to come. His contract post racing is worth a King’s ransom, and I expect if he can record a famous victory on Saturday, there will be a collective sigh of relief amongst the sea of jubilation. He can lead or take a sit from barrier two, and if he has even luck in transit, he will prove too strong for his rivals late. The best two-year-old since Pierro!
Switzerland is the obvious danger to the well-supported favourite. The unbeaten Snitzel colt has a raw and devastating turn of foot, and I suspect he has a huge engine under the bonnet. All victories have been first-class, and I am unsure the penny has completely dropped. If the big boy can sit mid-field with cover from barrier seven, I expect him to chime in when the whips are cracking. He is still learning, and his best is yet to come. He is a must for all broader exotics and multiples.
Suggested Bet: Storm Boy @ $2.20
rOSEHILL Race 9
#11 Sunshine In Paris
Sunshine In Paris can resume a winner. The lightly-raced four-year-old hasn’t been asked to do much in her recent trials, and I suspect this is her sole target for the autumn preparation. The Invader mare is building an impressive career record, and there has been a flood of money for the enigmatic galloper in early betting. She has previously beaten some serious Group 1 mares, and she looks well placed to breakthrough at the elite level on Saturday.
Uncommon James can run a bold race. The Cable Bay gelding should have won this event last year with a leg in the air, and he comes in 1kg better off at the weights than the 2023 edition. A recent Doomben barrier trial performance caught the eyes of punters, and I suspect he will sit just of the frenetic speed from barrier one. If he can recapture his best form from 12 months ago, he is a live chance at a decent price.
Suggested Bet: Sunshine In Paris @ $10.00
Moonee Valley Race 8
#5 Imperatriz
World Champion Imperatriz looks incredibly hard to beat under the weight-for-age scale. She carried the grandstand in the Newmarket, and she was braver than Mel Gibson in defeat, racing on the inferior part of the track. The I Am Invincible mare is unbeaten at the track, and her record at the distance is phenomenal. From barrier ten, Opie Bosson will make the right choice, and I suspect it won’t matter if he presses forward or drags back, as her versatility is what makes her the best on the planet. She is a marvel!
I Am Me resumes after a string of impressive barrier trials. The talented five-year-old mare is a first-up specialist, and I suspect she will roll forward from the inside draw. Her best form reads well for this event, and I expect her to figure in the finish if she has even luck on straightening. She has been specked at a price, and she can capitalise if the favourite has an off day.
Suggested Bet: Imperatriz @ $1.80
