Welcome to February! Group racing returns to Rosehill, while the Heath hosts a cracking ten-race program. With the autumn carnivals knocking on our door, join our experts as they outline their best bets on a super Saturday of racing!
Rosehill Race 3
#1 Traffic Warden
Traffic Warden looks the class runner of the field. His form around the Magic Millions winner Storm By reads incredibly well for this event, and there has been a flood of money for the enigmatic galloper in early betting. His recent barrier trial turned heads, and I expect the Street Boss colt will be cherry-ripe for Saturday’s black-type event. Watch for the big boy late!
Fearless was good without winning at his only career start, the Breeders’ Plate. He has had several impressive jump-outs leading into his first-up assignment, and I suspect he will get the perfect cart into the race from a middle draw. The Pierata colt oozes class, and I expect him to reach dizzy heights during the autumn.
Suggested Bet: Traffic Warden @ $3.50
Rosehill RACE 4
#3 Lady Laguna
Lady Laguna is flying at present! The Overshare mare is chasing a hatrick of victories, and she hasn’t missed the placings since the moon landing. Her last-start victory at the Gold Coast was visually stunning, and she broke all on-course clocks with her sizzling late sectionals. She deserves the favourite tag, and I expect her to prove too strong with even luck in-transit. Big watch!
Malkovich can bounce back after a string of outs. The Choisir gelding boasts superior form, and if he can reproduce one of his better performances, he could prove fences and panels above the rest. From barrier two, he will jump and pilot the field, and if he can control the clock throughout, he may lead his rivals in a merry dance. His recent winning record is the primary concern.
Suggested Bet: Lady Laguna @ $2.25
Rosehill Race 5
#5 Froebel Star
Froebel Star is over the odds. The Zousain filly chased home a smart one on debut, and she strips fitter for Saturday’s assignment. The step out in distance is advantageous, and I suspect this event has been a long-range target for the Ciaron Maher camp. From the inside draw, she can take up a forward position, and if she can avoid an early-speed battle, she may prove hard to run down.
Lady Of Camelot will start one of the shortest-priced favourites of the meeting. The Written Tycoon filly was good on debut, and her recent barrier trials put the writing on the wall for a successful autumn campaign. The Gai Waterhouse two-year-old will stream forward in search of an early lead, and if she can find the bunny uncontested, it could be curtains before patrons find their seats.
Suggested Bet: Froebel Star @ $11.00
Caulfield Race 8
#7 A Little Deep
A Little Deep is very progressive. The Deep Field mare has been going through her grades successfully, and she deserves her shot at a decent and hot race on Saturday. The step out to 1200m is ideal at this stage of her campaign, and I suspect she will occupy the box seat from an inside draw. If John Allen can present the big girl with her run at the right time, she can make her presence felt late.
Wrote To Arataki will have supporters after producing a consistent preparation to date. The Wrote mare boasts from around some serious gallopers, and she simply doesn’t know how to run a bad race. She has been supported heavily in early betting and has the class and experience to threaten. The allocated weight and tricky alley are among the primary concerns.
Suggested Bet: A Little Deep @ $5.00
Caulfield Race 9
#9 Midtown Boss
Midtown Boss has one hoof on the till. The Street Boss gelding won well fresh on debut for his new stable, and he traditionally performs well second-up. 1100m is in his wheelhouse, and if he can jump cleanly with the rest of the field from an inside gate, he can camp on the leader’s back. The precocious galloper possesses a huge engine, and if he can record another victory on Saturday, some serious races await. Talented!
Rey Magnerio ran well against the track bias at Flemington at his latest outing. There was a speed lane on the inside part of the track, and he was one of very few horses for the day who made ground from the back of the pack. The inform Magnus gelding has been a revelation this campaign, and he can take the next step here. Too consistent to pot!
Suggested Bet: Midtown Boss @ $2.30
Caulfield Race 10
#13 Jimmysstar
Jimmysstar is one impressive customer. The Per Incanto gelding is building an outrageous career record, and he arguably should be undefeated. The progressive type has turned heads since arriving in Australia and looks to have the autumn at his mercy. The Blake Shinn and Ciaron Maher combination will attract further market support, and I expect him to prove too sharp over the seven furlongs. Hard to toss!
Riot And Rose is coming off a forgive run after spending a year in the paddock. Nothing went right for the Pins gelding, and it was a horror watch for fans of the big grey. His best form puts him into all winning calculations, and I suspect he will fight and fight until the final siren’s gone. Over the odds.
Suggested Bet: Jimmysstar @ $2.10
