AFL Tips & Previews, 22nd June

Tips, previews and all the best bets you need for Round 15 of the AFL season including an in-depth look at the thriller between Geelong and Melbourne.

It’s Round 15 of the AFL season and things are starting to heat up on the road to finals.

BetDeluxe provides tips for every game this weekend, including the power house battle between Geelong and Melbourne.

game of the week: Cats vs. Demons

22nd June 7:20PM

Can Melbourne solidify their premiership credentials with a third consecutive win? Or can Geelong take down a top-four side and simultaneously keep their finals hopes alive?

We are set for a thriller at GMHBA Stadium on Thursday night, with the Dees looking to capitalise on recent wins against Collingwood and Carlton. They don’t kick many goals but boast the strongest defensive unit in the competition, averaging 62.8 points against them over their last five games. While Clayton Oliver is still in doubt with an infected blister, the engine room is still operating at an elite level, with Christian Petracca and Jack Viney leading the charge.

We know the Cats can get on a serious run at any moment, but Chris Scott will be praying it’s sooner rather than later after last week’s loss to the Power made it four from their past five. They took a significant hit on the injury front, with Patrick Dangerfield suffering a partially collapsed lung and cracked rib that will sideline him for a couple of weeks. Tom Hawkins (2) and Jeremy Cameron (1) combined for just three goals last week and haven’t kicked more than four as a duo over the previous five games.

With Melbourne’s defensive prowess, the market leader, and the twin towers at Geelong struggling to score, we’re backing the Dees to make it three on the trot.

Suggested Bet: Same Game Multi

  • Leg 1: Melbourne 1-39
  • Leg 2: Under 152.5 points
  • Leg 3: C. Petracca 25+ disposals
  • Leg 4: T. Hawkins 2+ goals
  • Total: $9.50

Saints vs. Lions

23rd June 7:50pm

A handful of games require close attention this weekend, and this is undoubtedly one of them. The fifth-placed Saints will like their chances against the fourth-placed Lions, particularly given Brisbane’s record in Melbourne. The Lions found winning form against the Swans (16 points), but it was far from convincing as they fought out their first win in three games. With Hugh McCluggage and Dayne Zorko possibly returning, the Lions are still every chance at $1.78.

Suggested Bet: Lions to win @ $1.78

Swans vs. Eagles

24th June 4:35pm

Could the week off help the Eagles? Unlikely. Having won just one game from their 13 this season, the Eagles entered the bye off a monstrous 122-point loss to the Crows. The Swans’ forwards will be licking their lips after watching the big Texan salute with 10 majors, with Isaac Heeney and Buddy Franklin potentially back for the feast.

Suggested Bet: Swans 40+ @ $1.46

Dockers vs. Bombers

24th June 7:25PM

What’s happened to Fremantle? After clawing their way back into this season, the Dockers have suffered back-to-back losses against the Tigers and Giants, with the latter a 70-point demolition at Giants Stadium. Ranked last for first-quarter scoring, they will face the fast-starting Bombers, who have won their past four first terms, resulting in four wins. Darcy Parish is expected to return from a calf injury for Brad Scott’s outfit, meaning Sean Darcy’s possible inclusion is of the utmost importance to the home side.

Suggested Bet: P. Wright first goal scorer @ $9

Magpies vs. Crows

25th June 1:10PM

Don’t look now, but Collingwood isn’t on top of the ladder. The Power usurped the current flag favourites over the weekend and will be hellbent on returning to the top of the pile with victory over the Crows. Despite Tex Walker’s bag of 10 in his side’s 122-point demolition of the injury-ravaged Eagles, the Crows are $3.45 for a reason – they’re 0-5 away from the Adelaide Oval—Magpies at the ‘G.

Suggested Bet: Magpies 1-39 @ $2.12

Suns vs. Hawks

25th June 4:40PM

Having won three of their last four games, the Hawks will undoubtedly cause a few sleepless nights for Stuart Dew and the Gold Coast Suns. Although, a quick reminder of James Sicily’s three-week suspension will certainly allow them a few more z’s. The Suns will need to improve on last week’s 59-point loss to the Blues. Their midfield was dismantled 45-33 in clearances, and the top five possession-winners were all wearing navy. Closer than the market suggests, but the Suns should still get the job done.

Suggested Bet: Suns first to score @ $1.67
