Caulfield hosts The Zipping Classic meeting this Saturday before undergoing a much-needed track upgrade. With The Eclipse Stakes, Sandown Guineas, and The Sandown Cup supporting the feature event, punters have one last chance to see quality racing at ‘The Heath’ before a lengthy spell.
Caulfield Race 6
#1 Grandslam
Despite carrying 61kg, Grandslam ran really well fresh at Moonee Valley. He savaged the line late to fill a minor placing, and he looks well placed here. Barrier 3 should ensure a soft run, Craig Williams has a great association with the son of Myboycharlie, and he races well second up.
Sirileo Miss is a sectional beast. The quick back is a positive, and she rarely runs a poor race. If she can find a spot from barrier 12, she will be thereabouts.
Princess Rhaenys can run a cheeky race at odds. She was good at Flemington, and this trip suits her.
Suggested Bet: Grandslam @ $3.80
CAULFIELD RACE 7
#9 Luncies
Luncies was huge at Flemington in The Queen’s Cup. He was narrowly beaten by the talented Soulcombe, who is being targeted at some serious Group 1 features in 2023. That form will measure up here.
Without A Fight didn’t handle the heavy track in The Melbourne Cup. This is a significant class drop, and I expect him to bounce back Saturday on a drier track. His form overseas is fantastic. He will be in the finish.
Despite being nearly old enough to drive, Sound will run well here. His run was great in The Caulfield Cup, and he wasn’t disgraced at Flemington.
Suggested Bet: Luncies Boy @ $6.00
Caulfield Race 8
#3 The Fortune Teller
I am very bullish about The Fortune Teller, who was excellent in The Caulfield Guineas. His performance on Derby Day at Flemington was even better, running some of the fastest sectionals of the meeting. Watch for him late!
See You In Heaven will start favourite after a luckless run last start. The mile will suit, and she will get every chance with Craig Williams on board. Barrier 13 is the only concern.
Angry Skies must be included in all wider exotics at double-figure odds. He is too consistent to leave out.
Suggested Bet: The Fortune Teller @ $4.60
Caulfield Race 9
#5 Mac 'N' Cheese
Mac ‘N’ Cheese can run well here after a little freshen-up. She was great at Flemington, and I think this will be a peak run with the residual fitness under her belt. She will relish the 1600m, and she looks over the odds.
Roots will be competitive after a gritty win at Flemington on Oaks Day. The talented mare by Press Statement could be in the finish if she gets a good run in transit.
Mirra Vision nearly pinched The Group 1 Empire Rose despite racing wide throughout. Class drop helps, barrier 16 doesn’t.
Suggested Bet: Mac ‘N’ Cheese @ $12.00
