Mid-week racing returns to Sandown this Wednesday. The eight-race card looks tricky and competitive, offering plenty of value for punters. Find out below who our experts expect to be saluting.

Sandown Race 5

#2 pearl rain

Pearl Rain was impressive last start at Moonee Valley. Nothing beats a mare in form, and the daughter of Al Maher is looking to make it a hat-trick of wins. She should peak here third up from a spell and looks ideally placed. The apprentice claim is positive, and the soft track is advantageous. She offers great each-way value.

Mi Rock Aly performed well during Melbourne Cup week. Despite the wide barrier, I expect her to be competitive. She has had good market support in early betting.

Savagal finally gets out to a suitable trip. She was good at Flemington, and she can bounce back here. It must be respected.

Suggested Bet: Pearl Rain @ $7.00

sandown RACE 6

#8 Everglade

The favourite Everglade looks hard to beat here. She was impressive when winning on her debut at Moonee Valley. She probably didn’t handle the heavy track second up and had other genuine excuses. From barrier 3, Damien Oliver can give her the run of the race. She will be in the finish.

Sheza Marvel won well on debut before being freshened up. The John Allen and Ciaron Maher combination must be respected, and she is a major player if she can repeat her last start cruising speed.

Gabstar is over the odds first up from a spell. The daughter of Star Witness has speed to burn.

Suggested Bet: Everglade @ $3.00

Sandown Race 7

#8 Heavenly eagle

Heavenly Eagle looks poised third up from a spell. He savaged the line last start from a long way back, and he will relish the soft conditions. Harry Coffey has options from barrier four and is in career-best form. With the proper run in transit, Heavenly Eagle will be in the finish.

Reigate has been crying out for the mile. He is another one that will be hitting the line late, and with the services of Blake Shinn, he might be hard to stop. His run last start at Pakenham was solid, and the market support tells me he is here to win.

Secret Glamour will start favourite despite drawing the carpark (14). She was good at first up, and she handles all conditions.

Suggested Bet: Heavenly Eagle @ $9.50

Sandown Race 8

#13 Typical You

Typical You showed a dynamic turn of foot to win at Cranbourne first up. The son of Rubick has had a little freshen-up coming into this, and if he can repeat his Cranbourne effort, he is a genuine threat. He will get every chance from an inside barrier draw.

Suparazi can bounce back after an average performance at Moonee Valley. He gets out to a suitable distance and must be considered on the quick backup.

Drop The Mic looks well placed after a string of minor placings.

Suggested Bet: Typical You @ $6.00
