Moonee Valley Racing Tips & Previews, October 22nd

Best bets from The Cox Plate meeting. Can anyone stop Anamoe's dominance?

The whole of Melbourne is looking towards BOM, sorry, the bureau for track conditions by the team at BetDeluxe is full steam ahead with a preview of all the best action from The Valley.

MOONEE VALLEY Race 1

#6 count your pennies

We start Cox Plate Day with The Inglis Banner for the two-year-olds.

Count Your Pennies will be on speed after three impressive jumpouts. The well-bred filly looks ready for a first-up tilt despite the price. Can win.

Arkansaw Kid won a recent Flemington jumpout against several runners lined up here. It could be the correct form guide despite drifting in early markets. Sailor’s Rum will be thereabouts with the inform Jamie Kah aboard.

Suggested Bet: Count Your Pennies @ $18.00

MOONEE VALLEY RACE 7

#1 BERKELEY SQUARE

Berkeley Square bombed the start but still savaged the line in The Group 1 Caulfield Guineas. The start prior was brilliant when winning the Exford Plate at Flemington from an impossible position. The Valley is a slight concern but he is still the one to beat.

Pericles looks talented and has been well supported in both starts to date. Stable is in form and this looks a winnable race for the son of Street Boss. Sir Bailey is coming off a forgive run and can figure at odds.

Suggested Bet: Berkeley Square @ $2.35

MOONEE VALLEY Race 8

#11 Francesco Guardi

Francesco Guardi was fantastic last start in The Group 3 Bart Cummings at Flemington. Narrowly missed picking up the winner, Lunar Flare, after clipping heels and nearly falling. Can make amends here.

It’s almost D-Day for Grande Promenade, who would have started odds on against this field 12 months ago. Can peak here third up from a spell from a plumb inside draw (3).

Persan is the class on route to another Melbourne Cup, while Desert Icon is too consistent to leave out.

Suggested Bet: Francesco Guardi @ $4.20

MOONEE VALLEY RACE 9

#10 ANAMOE

What a super edition of the weight for age championship of Australasia. Most of the field is coming out of the Might and Power Stakes at Caulfield, arguably the most exciting Group 1 of the spring to date.

Zaaki has drawn barrier one, which will allow Jamie Kah every chance to live out her childhood dream of winning The Cox Plate. Zaaki showed plenty of fight at Caulfield and looked the winner several times before being grabbed in the shadows. Sticking to the 2000m is a positive, and I expect a peak run here. If The Valley is ”leaderish” Zaaki will look the winner in the straight. When will Kah press the button? Big Chance, especially if the predicted rain lobs.

No knock on Anamoe after a brilliant last-bound win at Caulfield. He wobbled around the home straight like a long-lost shopping trolley but still got the job done. The scary part about Anamoe is that it was his first runback after a slight lameness issue. Any improvement resulting from that run makes him incredibly hard to beat. I think he is the best horse in the country at present and has this race at his mercy. Barrier 4 should allow James McDonald to find a comfortable spot in transit before rounding them up late. Not sure the opposition has progression or improvement left in them, while scarily, I think Anamoe can go to new heights.

Suggested Bet: Anamoe @ $2.35
