More history will be made, and names will be cast in light when New South Wales and Queensland get ready to battle it out for game one in the State of Origin at Accor Stadium.
The flavour series centres around a host of debuts, namely, Billy Slater is taking the reigns as coach of the Maroons for the first time.
Slater has named four Origin debutants, Patrick Carrigan, Selwyn Cobbo, Reuben Cotter and Jeremiah Nanai, to get their go in the famous burgundy guernsey.
The Blues, meanwhile, have also handed out first games to Panthers centre Stephen Crichton, Ryan Matterson and Kotoni Staggs.
Brad Fittler will be looking to continue the momentum his Blues’ conjured up in last year’s origin by easily accounting for the Maroons in the first two series games.
Sydney captain James Tedesco will pull on his superman cape to lead the Blues as origin captain, while Daly Cherry-Evans captains the Maroons for the fourth consecutive year.
From a gameplay perspective, kicking is going to be very important.
Nathan Cleary utilised his foot skills to give the Blues a vast territory advantage throughout the 2021 series. He will no doubt be called upon again.
How Cherry-Evans attempts to negate him going the other way will determine what type of outcome we get in this game.
If Cleary’s influence can be quelled, the Maroons can pinch game one.
That, however, is easier said than done.
But maybe Slater has a few tricks and a new game style that will breathe life into Queensland after a disappointing 2021 campaign.
