Pakenham Tips & Previews, Friday 3rd June

Pakenham synthetic is where Friday racing situates itself in Victoria with an eight-race card guiding us into the weekend.

The Punter’s Prince is ready to go for the best bets ahead of racing from Pakenham on the synthetic surface.

There is a great value play in the third he is having a big crack at.

Pakenham race 3

#10 the big freeze

He might have failed when debuting over 1200 metres at Pakenham on a soft-six track, but The Big Freeze looks to have gone up the wrong price.

His early speed was good enough to hold down the lead, and he looked like the winner coming into the straight. However, he never let down.

He pulled up poorly from the run after starting a $3.4 favourite.

That price has to be respected, as does the fact he went neck to neck with his stablemate Waterworld in an 800-metre jump out before the two started their preparations last month.

The price differential between the two seems ridiculous.

Suggested Bet: The Big Freeze each way at $6 the win and $2.2 the place.

#2 mr mischief

Mr Mischief has become somewhat of a synthetic-track warrior in his racing career.

The six-year-old gelding has two wins and three placings from his six starts on synthetic surfaces.

He was brave in defeat behind a smart winner called Crystal Dynasty last start where he had to flush out three wide to chase the winner who had an easy time of it up front.

This race looks to shape up much better for him as he can lead this field from the inside barrier.

Vlad Duric has been riding well since his return from Asia and can pilot him to victory.

Not too fussed about the 64kgs, given how compressed the weight scale is.

Suggested Bet: Mr Mischief win at $2.80

Suggested Exotic: Quinella 2 & 6

pakenham race 6

#3 peekays legacy

One of the runners who stands out in this program.

Peekays Legacy brings NSW form to this race, a completely different reference to any horse in this event.

Peter and Paul Snowden have opted to apply the winkers to spark up this galloper.

He drops back from a 2200-metre BM-78 event, so there is a suggestion this trip might be a touch sharp for him.

He does face easier opposition, though and has good residual fitness on his side to handle what looks to be a solidly run event.

They should be able to tuck away behind the leaders and will need a little bit of luck from the inside gate.

Suggested Bet: Peekays Legacy each way at $7 for the win and $2.80 for the place.

Suggested Exotic: Boxed Trifecta – 2, 3, 5

pakenham race 8

#11 champions league

Champions League bobs up as a new horse under the eye of Clayton Douglas after being acquired from the John O’Shea stable.

He has had a jump out in between runs since coming over from NSW and looked to travel sweetly at Cranbourne.

The change of scenery might just be what switches this into winning form and the blinkers going back on suggest he is ready to run a big race.

Jamie Kah has been booked and he is worth a play.

Suggested Bet: Champions League win at $4.80

Suggested Exotic: Boxed Trifecta – 1, 3, 11
