Friday night racing under the lights of Cranbourne leads us into a big weekend of Group 1 racing.
The Punter’s Prince has syphoned his way through the eight-race card and has found all the best bets.
cranbourne race 2
#7 gabstar
Gabstar will have the kitchen sink thrown at her when she races second-up at Cranbourne over 1400 metres.
She resumed over 1200 metres at Kyneton and got too far back on a soft-seven rated track as a $2.35 favourite.
It looks as though she will be much better suited getting up to 1400 metres and finding a drier surface.
Blinkers go on in a bid to spark her up, and Michael Walker takes the ride from the inside barrier.
Can settle leader’s back and will need an inch of luck to get clear running.
Suggested Bet: Gabstar win at $3.4
Suggested Exotic: Boxed Trifecta – 5, 7, 10
cranbourne race 3
#8 telecaster
There might be a big duck egg next to Telecaster on the form line, but we can put a line through that run.
The three-year-old gelding started a $3 elect on debut over 1300 metres and pulled up lame.
He had shown nice speed and talent at the jump outs in the lead up to his debut, but was tipped out for a spell immediately.
Seems to have come back in good order with three jump outs to get his fitness up to a standard strong enough to compete first-up off his break.
Daniel Moor to ride and you know he will be positively ridden from the barrier.
Suggested Bet: Telecaster win at $3
cranbourne race 4
#12 Climbing star
The early money has come for Climbing Star, and the Phillip Stokes stable must respect it.
This is a Qatar Bloodstock filly by champion sire Zoustar, who has more talent than what her jump-outs and trials have indicated.
Stokes himself has a share in this horse, so she must have the ability if he has decided to get involved.
Her most recent effort at Moe over 1000 metres saw her travel firmly under the bridle without being asked for any action.
Went to the line under her own steam.
I think she is going to run a big one on debut.
Suggested Bet: Climbing Star win $5
Suggested Exotic: Boxed Trifecta – 2, 7, 8, 12
cranbourne race 7
#4 young hostess
Young Hostess looks like the stayer to be within this event.
The eight-year-old mare has retained her zest for racing after notching up consecutive wins leading up to her eighth-place finish at Flemington in BM-84 grade last start.
She races on the quick back-up, which tells us she has pulled very well from the Flemington run over 2500 metres, and she now has excellent conditioning to run well over this range again.
It should be a beautiful run from the barrier.
Suggested Bet: Young Hostess each way at $5.5 for the win and $2.15 for the place.
Suggested Exotic: Boxed Trifecta – 2, 4, 6
