Pakenham Tips & Previews, Thursday 19th May

The weekly Thursday night Pakenham meeting rolls around again and the Punter's Prince has rugged up to find all the best bets ahead of the eight-race program.

The Punter’s Prince runs his eyes off the Thursday night meeting at Pakenham.

The first starter is at juicy odds he is keen to be with, while the best bet of the night comes up in the last race.

Pakenham race 1

#13 del campo

The Hayes boys know how to get the first starter over the line.

Del Campo has come up with long odds for his race debut, but a little bit was specking around in the early markets to suggest this horse can run a cheeky race.

His jump-outs have all been sound, and he is sure to have kept heaps of energy in reserve for race day.

Jye Mcneil has been booked from a soft barrier, and he is worth an each-way play.

Suggested Bet: Del Campo, each way at $20 for the win and   $6 for the place.

Suggested Exotic: Boxed Trifecta – 12, 13, 14

#10 martha lavinia

Martha Lavinia has threatened to break her maiden tag way earlier in her racing career.

The three-year-old filly is yet to do so through five starts, but she gets her chance here.

Henry Dwyer has elected to throw the blinkers on her for the first time, given narrow margins have beaten her.

Hopefully, this gear change will keep her mind on the job and allow her to get that elusive win.

She has a robust fitness platform, which will have her right in this race.

Suggested Bet: Martha Lavinia each way at $10 the win and $3.10 the place.

Suggested Exotic: Quinella 5 & 10

pakenham race 5

#6 big brew

Big Brew has set himself up perfectly for this mile race at Pakenham.

His last two runs have been strong building blocks towards a peak effort this preparation.

Last week, he put in a strong performance over the mile at BM-64 level in a race that rated quite highly for the grade.

Racing the backup means he has thrived since the last run and bounces around the stables.

Tough to beat.

Suggested Bet: Big Brew win at $3.50

Suggested Exotic: Exacta 6 & 2

pakenham race 8

#10 meltdown

Copped a shocker of the ride from the young apprentice’s last start and now gets a senior gun jockey in Daniel Moor aboard.

She is knocking on the door of a win, having hit the line very well in this campaign’s first two runs.

Based on her last 400 metres at Pakenham’s previous start, which rated relatively high on the speed ratings, she is thriving with her racing.

She needs a bit of even luck to get her way to be hard in the finish.

Suggested Bet: Meltdown each way at $5.5 for the win and $2.05.
