Morphettville Tips & Previews, Saturday 30th April

A big Group 1 day ensues at Morphettville with the running of the Australasian Oaks as our analysts find the best bets on a juicy program.

The Punter’s Prince is taking on a few favourites on Australasian Oaks Day at Morphettville.

A few Victorian raiders are ready to run well at good odds, while a winning filly with a picket fence next to her name is bound to add another picket.

#10 defining

Defining is a three-year-old filly who is working step by step towards becoming a city stakes winner.

She gets her chance at Listed level after bolting in by five lengths at Oakbank over 1400 metres last start.

She has better conditioning and is more hardened than IIllation at this distance range, which is a massive advantage in this race.

Barend Vorster should land and perch this filly with the perfect trailing run.

She’ll get cover and will have plenty of energy late in the race to run over the top of the leaders.

Represents much better value than the current favourite.

Suggested Bet: Defining win at $4.2

#8 lalaguna

There a host of talented horses in this race, but are yet to really find themselves at the 1200-metre island.

One filly who has raced over 1200 metres at her last start and run quite well is Lalaguna.

Her debut run was a 1000-metre effort at Sandown where she was just run off her feet, but the extra 200 metres she found herself running over saw her settle in the lead and nearly pinch a win.

She will be fully fit now and gun front-running hoop Linda Meech takes the ride.

Even if she does not lead, she has proven she can still run well from in behind horses, but her biggest advantage would be using her conditioning and fitness at the distance range to full effect by trying to lead all the way as she did at Ballarat.

Suggested Bet: Lalaguna each-way at $10 the win and $2.45 the place.

Suggested Exotic: Quinella 5 & 8

#9 yaphet

His form guide does not suggest he is a class runner in this race given he comes from a BM-64 at Sale, but he seems to have sense of timing about him.

Love the fact he brings different to this race and Mark Zahra has stuck with him heading over to Adelaide.

He sustained a fantastic run at Sale to nab progressive filly So You See and showed all the hallmarks of a horse who is going to relish the rise to 2000 metres.

Being by the sire Blackfriars, he is probably going to be horse who will be at this best at 2000 metres and beyond.

Great each-way play.

Suggested Bet: Yaphet each-way at $13 the win and $4 the place.

Suggested Exotic: Boxed Trifecta – 1, 2, 4, 9

#6 my whisper

My Whisper just keeps going from strength to strength as a young filly.

Peter and Paul Snowden sent her to the Group 3 Auraria over 1800 metres at Morphettville and she went like rocket after settling well in the back half of the field.

Drawing a better barrier and getting Jamie Kah in the saddle means she will all but certainly land in a very handy spot in the run and will not have to make up as much ground as she did last start.

Being by champion horse Frankel, she will only appreciate getting up to 2000 metres.

This is clearly her grand-final race and we know how good the Snowdens are at getting their horses to peak into target races.

Suggested Bet: My Whisper win at $4.6
