Championships Day 3 Randwick Tips & Previews, Saturday 16th April

It is Day 3 of The Championships at Randwick as get set for the best bets ahead of the All Aged Stakes.

The final day of The Championships is upon us with the running of the All Aged Stakes and Champagne Stakes taking the headlines.

All the best best from the Punter’s Prince ahead of a big Group 1 day at Randwick.

Randwick race 1

#16 brazen impact

Was not well set up to win his last start and finds a much more favourable race.

He has dropped sharply down in distance from 1400 metres to 1000 metres and the effort looked more like a tick-over run to get him ready for this 1200-metre race.

Tommy Berry being booked is a positive sign.

Each-way gamble at the current odds.

Suggested Bet: Brazen Impact each-way at $10 the win and $3.3 the place.

Confidence Rating 4/10

randwick race 2

#11 contributing factor

Not a high confidence race, but we are in the camp of Contributing Factor.

Has put together some solid form over 1400 metres in his two runs back this campaign.

The effort behind a potential smart one called Pippali was actually not too bad and he finished second behind her in a tough race at Newcastle.

Coming to town and drawing a wide barrier at Randwick will not be to his detriment given the conditions at the track.

Hugh Bowman has been assigned to the role.

Suggested Bet: Contributing Factor win at $4.4

Confidence Rating: 3/10

randwick race 3

#4 straight arron

Straight Arron has got piles of talent under his bonnet.

Love the way he let rip and strode out over the mile last start to career away with a very easy victory as a $2.10 favourite.

He goes up to 2000 metres, which actually looks an ideal scenario for him given how well he hit the line at Randwick a fortnight ago.

Not sure how the beat him if he settles close enough from the wide barrier.

Suggested Bet: Straight Arron win at $2

Confidence Rating: 8.5/10

Randwick race 4

#5 fireburn

The star two-year-old has gone from strength to strength and took home the Sires Produce with ease.

The beauty about her is if they clamp the pressure on and go quickly, she can absorb the heat and finish off strongly.

Conversely, if the speed is slow, she has a wicked turn of foot capable of smashing this field.

The only is whether or not this is an end of preparation run.

On form, however, she is the clear on-top pick.

Could not recommend taking the current price, but doubt anything will challenge her.

Suggested Bet: Fireburn win at $1.55

Confidence Rating: 7.5/10

Randwick race 5

#6 comrade rosa

Comrade Rosa is ready to run a cracker.

Her two resuming runs have seen build towards taking a rise in distance and she gets up to 1400 metres.

Her effort when coming from a mile back at Randwick over 1200 metres last start was fantastic and it was the run of a horse who was saying ‘back me next start.’

Barrier one should see her pinch a nice run on the rails and save all the ground.

Think she can knock off Espiona who is the odds-on favourite.

Suggested Bet: Comrade Rosa each-way at $6.5 the win and $2.30 the place.

Confidence Rating: 6/10

Randwick race 6

#3 big parade

No prizes for picking Big Parade here.

He is a tough, honest on-pacer who should be able to lead this field up on his here.

Was only just knocked off in his resuming run in the Galaxy by sprinting sensation Shelby SixtySix.

That is some of the strongest form in the country and he should be winning this race.

Suggested Bet: Big Parade win at $1.75

Confidence Rating: 8/10

Randwick race 7

#7 marroni

Gets a few factors in his favour here.

Damian Lane taking the ride is a huge green tick.

He also gets a big weight swing in his favour on Polly Grey.

The 2000-metre race he contested in last start will bring him on beautifully for this race after he had to make the rise 1500 metres.

Will be hard to beat.

Suggested Bet: Marroni win at $4.80

Confidence Rating: 7.5/10

Randwick race 8

#14 in the congo

In The Congo races on the quick back-up.

He has clearly pulled up super from his second-place effort behind gun sprinter Mazu.

Looks like he is a horse on the hunt for 1400 metres and he gets that here.

In typical Gai Waterhouse fashion, the instructions should be to bounce to the lead, roll along at a fast clip and get them all chasing from a long way out.

Suggested Bet: In The Congo each-way at $5 the win and $2 the place.

Confidence Rating: 8/10

Randwick race 9

#5 our playboy

Gets the golden switch of an inside barrier to an outside barrier, which is going to help his chances greatly.

He raced in the Doncaster Prelude at Newcastle last start was drawn poorly on the inside when it was a day where the winners were coming down the outside fence.

He still did a great job to run second and now he comes to town with James McDonald aboard.

Should be able to hunt up from the wide gate, find some cover in the three-wide running line and peel out to the best part of the track to produce his run.

Suggested Bet: Our Playboy win at $3.5

Confidence Rating: 7/10

Randwick race 10

#6 maotai

Maotai gets the services of champion hoop Nash Rawiller to pilot him around Randwick.

There is no better front-running hoop in the land than Rawiller and he can dictate the tempo out in the lead.

In a race that looks to lack any race early speed, this horse can use his fitness to full effect here.

He handles the wet going and will be out of trouble out in front.

Suggested Bet: Maotai win at $3.5

Confidence Rating: 6.5/10
