Caulfield Tips & Previews, Saturday 16th April

The Punter's Prince is all hands on deck at The Heath for the nine-race card worth of best bets on Easter Cup Day.

Easter Cup Day at Caulfield sees punters gearing up for a nine-race card from The Heath this Saturday.

The Punter’s Prince has found all the best bets ahead of a big program.

caulfield race 1

#4 gulf of lion

Tough and even two-year-old race, but we will go with one at double figures.

Having a speculative each-way punt on Gulf Of Lion.

Should have taken plenty of fitness benefit from the first-up run over 1100 metres.

He maps to lead this race and gets the blinkers going on for the first time, which is a big signal of intent from the stable.

Suggested Bet: Gulf Of Lion each-way at $11 the win and $3.4 the place.

Confidence Rating 4/10

caulfield race 2

#8 magnajet

Clemenceau deserves to be favourite, but he has come up quite short in the market.

Going for a horse who has a fantastic first-up record and that Magnajet.

His first-up run last start saw him draw poorly and he was a spent force.

This time around, he draws a soft inside barrier and gets Craig Newitt to pilot him.

Should be a soft time of it either in the lead or one-pair back.

Suggested Bet: Magnajet each-way at $16 the win and $4.4 the place.

Confidence Rating: 5/10

caulfield race 3

#2 point nepean

We tipped him heavily last start and he got the money for us.

He finds another winnable race despite creeping up in the weights.

Alana Kelly will claim 2kgs off his back again and the weight impost will also be offset by his stronger fitness levels.

Maps to control the lead again and will be hard to run down.

Suggested Bet: Point Nepean win at $2.6

Confidence Rating: 7.5/10

caulfield race 4

#12 mamounia

This three-year-old filly from the Godolphin team brings over a completely different Sydney form line to this race.

She ran third behind Honeycreeper last start who was very well in the market in the Australian Oaks.

James Cummings has targeted her at a much easier staying race and she draws to get all the breaks from barrier three.

Can see her handling what looks to be a softly-run 2400-metre event with consummate ease.

Suggested Bet: Mamounia win at $4

Confidence Rating: 6.5/10

caulfield race 5

#10 dazzling lucy

No knock on the winning form of Dazzling Lucy.

She progressed to BM-58 grade very easily after knocking off her maiden.

Looks to be a filly on the rise and is a no nonsense type of runner in this grade of racing.

With the rise to 1100 metres, she should be able to settle herself just in behind the lead speed, peel out and let down with a sprint.

These chute races can often play up the middle and she draws to be in that part of the track.

Suggested Bet: Dazzling Lucy each-way at $7 the win and $2.60 the place.

Confidence Rating: 5/10

caulfield race 6

#5 jump the broom

Jump The Broom had no right to win when resuming at Mornington over 1200 metres.

She travelled strongly into the race, but was pocketed heading into the home straight and had to check off heels.

Her ability to muster up, find the line and run over the top to win was that of a horse in great form.

Do not mind the drop back to 1100 metres, with the speed in this race seemingly hot in the early parts.

Jye Mcneil should be able to blend in from the middle pin and use this horse’s lovely turn of speed to great effect.

Suggested Bet: Jump The Broom win at $3

Confidence Rating: 8.5/10

caulfield race 7

#12 grandslam

The double-figure price has been pinched, but Grandslam is still good each-way value.

He has a big starting price advantage over Pondus, who beat him home when they went head to head at Flemington a few weeks ago.

Grandslam was not well set up to run a strong 2000 metres after having to make the rise in distance from 1400 metres the start prior.

He should be thriving now after that highly-rated race and will be hitting peak fitness.

Wide barrier should be offset by this galloper’s ability to roll forward and find the lead.

If he can control the race on his own accord, it is almost impossible to see him missing a top three spot.

Suggested Bet: Grandslam each-way at $7 the win and $2.5 the place.

Confidence Rating: 8/10

caulfield race 8

#3 kissonallfourcheeks

Returns to Victoria after a sojourn up North to tackle the Group 1 Doncaster Mile.

She was thrashed in that race and clearly outclassed.

Getting back to Group 3 level and a drier track will see her far more competitive.

Hoping she can get the momentum on the home bend over the favourite who draws a tad awkwardly on the rail and is resuming after a lengthy spell.

Suggested Bet: Kissonallfourcheeks win at $4.8

Confidence Rating: 6.5/10

caulfield race 9

#6 glint of hope

Third-up and staying at the mile looks an ideal recipe for Glint Of Hope to find the winners list again.

She resumed at Pakenham over 1400 metres and showed us she will appreciate getting to the mile and beyond.

Probably just needed the run last start to bring her on for this effort in town and she should strip fitter.

Barrier six will see her plonk in a handy spot.

Suggested Bet: Glint Of Hope win at $3.90

Confidence Rating: 6/10
