It is Day One of The Championships in Sydney as get set for a mammoth 10-race card at Randwick.
The wet and windy conditions will be a huge factor in who wins and who is defeated.
Fingers crossed the meeting goes ahead as the BetDeluxe bandits find all the best bets ahead of a big day of racing.
randwick race 1
#10 ginger's gal
The two-year-old filly Ginger’s Gal seems revved up to run a big race on debut.
She has had two trials this campaign under the tutelage of Bjorn Baker and showed her ability to handle the heavy tracks in both.
Her most recent effort was a 900-metre trial at Randwick on a heavy eight which she won quite comfortably.
Think the market has really undersold her wet-track ability and we also get the services of world-class jockey Damian Lane.
Suggested Bet: Ginger’s Gal each-way at $6.5 the win and $2.35 the place.
Confidence Rating: 5.5/10
randwick race 2
#3 straight arron
The three-year-old colt is now clearly on the hunt of 1600 metres and further.
Loved his debut win at Sandown over 1400 metres and his effort in town at Warwick Farm on a heavy 10 was good enough to suggest he can make the rise to Saturday grade.
He will get back from a wide gate, but has the capability for sustaining a big run from the rear.
Drawing out wide is not likely to be disadvantage either, given the state of the track.
Suggested Bet: Straight Arron win at $2.20
Confidence Rating: 7.5/10
randwick race 3
#7 i'm devine
This race looks to have a very long tail and the horse on the up is Im Devine.
She is out of a gun staying sire in Roman Emperor who won an AJC Derby and finished second in a Caulfield Cup.
The step up in distance, based on her breeding, is going to be ideal for her.
The run at Canberra when she tried to lead all the way, after working hard to find the lead, was super.
It will bring her on perfectly for this.
Suggested Bet: I’m Devine win at $4.6
Confidence Rating: 7.5/10
randwick race 4
#12 chalk stream
Owned by the Queen and trained by the King of Australian racing in Chris Waller.
Chalk Steam has certainly been building to a winning run this preparation.
His first two efforts on Australian soil have seen gradual improvement and he is now ready to win third-up.
He would have just been a run short of fitness when he finished third over 2400 metres last and he should be ready to thrive getting up to 2600 metres from an inside barrier.
Down in the weights is a tick as well.
Suggested Bet: Chalk Stream win at $3.50
Confidence Rating: 8.5/10
randwick race 5
#6 edit
Cody Morgan is a gun provincial/country trainer and will have Edit trained to the minute here.
The resuming run over 1400 metres saw him get snicked back from a wide barrier at Scone and he stormed home to run second.
From a better barrier, he will be able to put together that turn of foot and sustained speed to much greater effect by settling closer to the speed.
Only query is the super heavy track, so this is a low confidence race.
Suggested Bet: Edit each-way at $6 the win and $2.25 the place.
Confidence Rating: 2.5/10
randwick race 6
#3 let'srollthedice
Let’srollthedice has a lot of things in his favour as he gets set to make the trip up to Sydney for the first time.
The Dundeel two-year-old colt trained by Danny O’Brien proved his wet-track ability on debut over 1100 metres at Bendigo when plowing his way through the slop to win with ease.
He then transferred that form to VRC Sires with an emphatic win over 1400 metres after being very well supported in the market.
He might not have the class of some of these Group 1 sprinters, but what he does have is conditioning over this distance range and the talent of Damian Lane to steer him around the course.
Suggested Bet: Let’srollthedice each-way at $10 the win and $3.3 the place.
Confidence Rating: 8/10
randwick race 7
#1 hitotsu
The big query with him is the wet track, but by golly he is a star.
Won the Group 1 Australian Guineas first-up from a spell and has a massive engine.
He is yet to perform on a genuinely heavy track, but he is yet to be tested on one of them.
This is is his first attempt and we are going to get a great price to find out if he can do what he did in the Victoria Derby in the spring of 2021.
Hard to see him not getting the run of the race from barrier four.
Suggested Bet: Hitotsu win at $3.80
Confidence Rating: 5/10
randwick race 8
#1 nature strip
The star sprinter of the world who handles all conditions and high-pressure races.
He is a two-time winner of the TJ Smith Stakes and is the current defending champion of the race.
Clearly been aimed at this event since resuming from his spell and he has a massive starting price advantage over Eduardo and Shelby SixtySix.
Could be a monty if James McDonald has him humming and brings him across to lead from the outside barrier.
Suggested Bet: Nature Strip win at $2.80
Confidence Rating: 8.5/10
randwick race 9
#20 converge
If there is any trainer who knows how to win a Doncaster Mile, it is Gai Waterhouse.
She combines with Adrian Bott to saddle up three-year-old gelding Converge.
He was thrashed by Anamoe in the Rosehill Guineas a fortnight ago, but that is nothing to frown about given Anamoe is a deadset star.
The drop back to mile is perfect and his track and distance win here two starts was red hot.
Gets in on the minimum with 50kgs and Rachel King should be able to land in a lovely spot from the inside barrier.
Suggested Bet: Converge each-way at $8 the win and $2.7 the place.
Confidence Rating: 7.5/10
randwick race 10
#16 comrade rosa
Taking an each-way gamble on Comrade Rosa to end the day.
So showed her strength over 1200 metres when winning with ease upon resuming at Newcastle as a $1.75 elect.
She draws barrier three, which might not be the ideal place to be later in the day, but she is a big price.
Brenton Avdulla is riding in sensational form and he can tag the back of the leaders to find cover from a what will be a savage wind.
Tough race to end the day, but she is worth a peanut.
Suggested Bet: Comrade Rosa each-way at $21 the win and $6.5 the place.
Confidence Rating: 2/10
