Golden Slipper Day Tips & Previews, Saturday 19th March

The BetDeluxe crew finds all the mail and best bets for Golden Slipper Day at Rosehill.

With Rosehill expecting a deluge of rain on Saturday morning, we are almost certain to be racing on a wet track again.

The best bets and selections will centre around horses who handle the wet going and have race fitness on their side.

rosehill race 1

#8 icecrusher

Giving Icecrusher another go here after she was caught deep and had excuses at her last start.

She was having her first run after four weeks in between runs and will have come on from that effort.

Big alarm bells go off with Nash Rawiller being booked and he will throw the kitchen sink at this mare.

Suggested Bet: Icecrusher each-way at $9 the win and $3 the place.

Confidence Rating: 5/10

rosehill race 2

#4 mazu

Mazu was heavily in the markets for the Group 1 Galaxy, but the Peter & Paul Snowden stable has opted for the easier option.

He has shown brilliant sustained speed at his two runs this campaign and this has led to consecutive wins.

Goes like a rocket on the heavy tracks, as we saw last start and will get a cushy run from the barrier.

Suggested Bet: Mazu win at $2.25

Confidence Rating: 8.5/10

rosehill race 3

#13 surefire

There was plenty to like about the Australian debut win of Surefire.

He powered through the line in heavy going and launched into contention for some strong stakes-level races later in his preparation.

The four-year-old gelding will only gain benefit from his first-up effort and it makes him seriously hard to top here.

Sam Clipperton retains the ride and the task is not too hard for him; jump cleanly, settle one off the fence and let down with the winning run.

Suggested Bet: Surefire win at $4.60

Confidence Rating: 6.5/10

rosehill race 4

#5 nerve not verve

Nerve Not Verve brings over the completely different Melbourne form to this race and stands out.

Love the booking of William Pike for this mare who comes off a brave front-running victory at Moonee Valley.

Hoping Pike can adopt similar tactics here and get this field chasing from a long way out.

She is rock-hard fit and likely to get through the wet going.

Suggested Bet: Nerve Not Verve each-way at $13 win and $3.80

Confidence Rating: 4.5/10

rosehill race 5

#5 verry elleegant

Verry Elleegant is starting to become similar to Winx with opposition now avoiding her at all cost.

She races in a tiny field here and has panels on this lot.

The only query is if they walk in this small field and she gets her head up and starts severely over-racing.

But even then, you could not possibly tip against her given the form she is in.

Suggested Bet: Verry Elleegant win at $1.35

Confience Rating: 9/10

rosehill race 6

#1 anamoe

Suffered defeat in the Randwick Guineas last start, but he had to do it tough when flushing out three wide and making a surging run from the rear half of the field.

He looks like a colt who is in desperate need of the 2000 metres and this is likely the race he has been targeted at since his Cox Plate run last year.

He has an incredible surge of speed capable of blowing this field if he can be coiled up for long enough.

He is ready to win, but the odds are a bit thin.

Suggested Bet: Anamoe win at $2

Confidence Rating: 8.5/10

rosehill race 7

#8 colette

She was double nominated and the stable has elected to run her over the mile in the George Ryder rather than the going up against Verry Elleegant again.

Forget her last start when she was ridden too close to the speed as a $3.6 favourite in the Chipping Norton.

The return to Rosehill, James McDonald being booked and getting smothering run from the inside barrier has her set up to run a big race.

Very bullish about her chances, she can bounce back in a big way.

Suggested Bet: Colette each-way at $5.5 the win and $2.10 the place.

Confidence Rating: 7.5/10

rosehill race 8

#16 she's extreme

Her sire Extreme Choice was a very fast horse multiple Group 1 winner and she seems to have thrown to the side of that side family.

She has to have her fair share of speed given what we have seen from her to date.

Hitting your peak at the right time is essential for winning the Golden Slipper and she found winning form in the Magic Night Stakes last week.

The more it rains, the better her chances are.

We get a great each-way price about a filly who is clearly on the up.

Suggested Bet: She’s Extreme each-way at $8 the win and $2.70 the place.

Confidence Rating: 8.5/10

rosehill race 9

#8 isotope

Tony Gollan might not have a better placed horse in the country this weekend.

Isotope rocks up to this Group 1 Galaxy in supreme form having bolted in the $1,000,000 Magic Millions Sprint at the Gold Coast.

She has been aimed at this race since and Gollan said he could not have her going any better.

This field is a very weak Group 1 field and she has an electric turn of acceleration that can blow this field away.

Relishes in the heavy going and there should be enough speed inside of her to allow Kerrin McEvoy to slot in for cover from the barrier.

Suggested Bet: Isotope win at $3.7

Confidence Rating: 9.5/10

rosehill race 10

#3 it's me

It’s Me has been working back to full fitness following a tendon injury which kept her out of racing for over a year.

The Kosciuszko winner of 2020 has always promised a lot as a horse and her run at Flemington over 1000 metres a fortnight ago might just have shown us she has still the spring in her legs.

Wet track is no problem and you know Hugh Bowman will get her in a lovely rhythm.

It will be great story if she can get up.

Suggested Bet: It’s Me each-way at $6.5 the win and $2.4 the place.

Confidence Rating: 5/10
